The Walking Dead Announces Season 5 Premiere, Releases New Trailer

AMC has set the fifth season premiere date for The Walking Dead.

Robert Kirkman's zombie drama will return for it is fifth season on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 9/8c, it was announced at Comic-Con on Friday.

The fifth season will pick up with the group still at Terminus, though the producers still would not confirm that the Termites are the ruthless cannibals of the comics. But it won't be long before we find out! "We're going to see the story of Terminus," Kirkman told the crowd. "We're going to see how it happened."

However, the new trailer for Season 5 seemed to hint towards them being cannibals, with our group of heroes being lined up for the slaughter before Bob (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.) convinces Gareth (Andrew J. West) that they need to go to Washington, D.C. so Eugene (Josh McDermitt) can provide the right people with the cure. On the plus side, Beth (Emily Kinney) was not on that BBQ! Sadly, she seems to be in a juvenile correction center with a very violent corrections officer.

The Walking Dead Postmortem: Are the People of Terminus Cannibals?

[WARNING: This story contains major spoilers from Sunday's The Walking Dead season finale. Read at your own risk!]

The survivors of The Walking Dead have found themselves in yet another perilous position.

During Sunday's season finale, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his small group made their way to Terminus, a community that promised safety for all those who arrived. Once the group learned just how much of a lie that was, they quickly tried to make a run for it. But they ended up being forced by Terminus leader Gareth (Andrew J. West)  into a train car, where they were reunited with Glenn (Steven Yeun), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Bob (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.). Suffice it to say, Gareth and the people of Terminus are not allies.

The Weekend Playlist: Dead Popular, 40 Years of Great Performances

Is "I've Got You Under My Skin" the most appropriate sweet nothing to croon in the skin-crawling world of AMC's The Walking Dead? No matter, because there's not much of a lull in Sunday's powerful episode (9/8c), ominously titled "Infected." Which suggests the virus that felled Nerd Boy last week creates a bloody panic in the cell block, reminding us how illusory any notion of safety can be. "I haven't seen anybody be lucky in a long time," former Army medic Bob Stookey (new regular Lawrence Gilliard Jr.) observes as a full gamut of courage, terror and anguish is displayed during and after the latest crisis. Earning special bonus stripes this week: Melissa McBride as the awesome Carol, who takes a few distraught girls under her wing, but not to coddle them: "You want to live, you have to become strong" is her mantra. Meanwhile, the walkers keep pressing up against the prison gates and the audience can't get enough of the riveting mayhem, as evidenced by the record numbers who turned out for last Sunday's premiere.
