In the Works: TBS Says Hi to Bob Newhart

TBS announced on Tuesday morning that in addition to renewing 10 Items or Less for a second season, it has the following series in development: Uncommon Sense, a domestic comedy penned by Larry Miller; Big Shot, a Jamie Foxx-produced series about a teenage NBA rookie; a Dave Caplan (Drew Carey Show)-penned laffer about a woman who finds humor in life despite adversity; and Bob Newhart: In Search of Comedy, a late-night comedy anthology.Over at A&E, Ice Cube has been tapped to produce Good in the Hood, a reality-series pilot in which a reformed gang member, drug dealer or thief helps similar folk turn their lives around. read more

At the Movies: Jessica Simpson Grabs More Willie

Per the Hollywood Reporter, country icon Willie Nelson will reunite with his Dukes of Hazzard costar when he plays grandpa to Jessica Simpson in Blonde Ambition, the bombshell's Working Girl redo. Also joining the cast is Larry Miller, as the CEO of a conglomerate.... The Lord of the Rings' Elijah Wood will head the international cast of Oxford Murders, a whodunit in which a university student (Wood) delves into a murder mystery with a Sherlock Holmes-style mentor (John Hurt). read more

Question: Please help settle a bet between my brother and myself. The loser has to buy tickets to a Braves game. I say Larry David showed up on Seinfeld a few times, but my brother says he didn't. What do you say? Who's right?


Answer: Assuming your brother has to buy a ticket for you, Phil, I say enjoy the game. Your brother may not have recognized him, but David did pop up on the show during its eight-year run, which started in May 1990.

Before you read this item, folks, let me just remind you that in most of the U.S., the year is still 2006. According to the Associated Press, with no warning or explanation, a Salt Lake City movie theater owned by Utah Jazz mogul Larry Miller decided against allowing Brokeback Mountain to unspool there.
