Jeers: Long Live the King?

Larry King courtesy CNN

Jeers to Larry King for bungling another celebrity obit. Just months after his clueless tribute to Heath Ledger, CNN's increasingly incoherent talkmeister broke into an interview with Bill Maher to report the death of Dave Matthews Band saxman LeRoi Moore. King lamented that "he was only 66" — which may seem young to a septuagenarian, but Moore was, in fact, 46. King went on to note that Moore had died "in a TV accident." Uh, Larry, that would be an ATV accident. What's a "TV accident"? At this point, Larry King. • Share your own raves and rants about other shows on the Reader Cheers & Jeers discussion board.• We may feature your Cheer or Jeer on TVGuide.com or in TV Guide magazine! read more

Jay Leno by Ryan Born/ WireImage.com

First it was Katie Couric, then Ryan Seacrest, and now...Jay Leno? The "Who'll Replace Larry King" sweepstakes rolls on.The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting CNN is toying with the idea of giving the Tonight Show host a late-night talkfest when his NBC contract expires next year. Leno would then slide into King's 9 pm/ET timeslot when the Suspendered One eventually retires. To be clear, King has not announced his retirement. He recently re-upped with CNN through 2010.In a major late-night shuffle, Leno is handing the Tonight reigns over to Conan O'Brien sometime in 2009, with comic Jimmy Fallon assuming the 12:30 am/ET post. NBC has indicated it wants to hold onto Leno, but no plan has been announced. Fox and ABC have also expressed interest in bringing Leno on board. — J.R. Ryan Seacrest to Replace Larry King on CNN?

Whispers inside CNN say American Idol host Ryan Seacrest has the inside track to replace Larry King on the network's nightly talkfest.MSNBC reports that Seacrest, who has subbed for King on numerous occasions, is in "serious negotiations" and could replace Capt. Suspenders by year's end.King, who has hosted Larry King Live since 1985, told the New York Times last year that when he decides to step down, Seacrest would be the perfect replacement. "He's the classic generalist," King said. "The only thing I don't know... is how versed he is in politics."Seacrest's reps had no comment on the story, while CNN said there is no truth to the report. — J.R. WhalenUpdate: Larry himself put the speculation to rest during a May 15 Ryan Seacrest appearance on LKL: "There were even rumors you were going to join CNN, which, we can tell viewers, there's nothing to that."Related:• Larry King and CNN Agree to Contract Extension read more

Jenny McCarthy Spews Bad Word on Live TV

Don't mess with Jenny McCarthy when it comes to autism. Last night on Larry King Live on CNN, while sparring with doctors on the issue, she let slip a bad word, commonly abbreviated as "BS."McCarthy believes some common vaccinations (and the number of vaccinations administered to children at an early age) can cause autism in children. The doctors disagreed with her on the point.CNN reportedly did not bleep out the word during the show's midnight/ET rebroadcast. — J.R. Whalen read more

Jeers: A Heath Ledger Tribute Not Fit for a King

Larry King courtesy CNN

Jeers to Larry King for being hopelessly out of touch. Discussing the tragic death of Heath Ledger, the CNN host asked a panelist, "Is his fianceé an actress?" Yes, Larry, her name's Michelle Williams, and they both got Oscar nominations for Brokeback Mountain! (Oh, and by the way, they were no longer engaged.) This comes not long after King offended Jerry Seinfeld by asking if his sitcom had been canceled. "You're not aware of this?" Seinfeld responded incredulously. "Can we get a résumé in here for Larry to go over?" With all due respect to Larry's 50 years in the biz, it might be time for King to step down from his throne.• Read and react to Bruce's opinions on Breaking Bad, Cashmere Mafia's Bonnie Somerville and more!• Share your own raves and rants about other shows on the Reader Cheers & Jeers discussion board.• We may feature your Cheer or Jeer on TVGuide.com or in TV Guide magazine! read more

Marie Osmond "Grateful" That Larry King Blindsided Her

Though at the time his sister was obviously caught off guard by Larry King's knowledge of the situation and related line of questioning (watch the video here), Donny Osmond now says the CNN talk host did Marie a favor by bringing up her 16-year-old son's enrollment in rehab. "I have to back up and apologize publicly to Larry King," Donny said Monday on Today, referring to some harsh words he lobbed at King in the immediate aftermath of the emotional sit-down. "In hindsight, [he] did Marie a favor. She was able to make a statement about the situation [before the tabloids grabbed hold of the story]. And so she's grateful to Larry." read more
