Dancing With the Stars: The Men Who Changed Chaz Bono

Chaz Bono

What a difference a week makes. In the course of seven days, two very different men have changed the way transgender activist Chaz Bono moves on Dancing With the Stars: the first is former swing dance champion Buddy Schwimmer, dance teacher and father of Bono's partner, Lacey. And the second is fellow competitor J.R. Martinez, who shot to the top of the fifth-week leader board.

Cher's Ballroom Blitz: A Low-Key Affair

Cher

She's worn plenty of glitter and feathers in her time, but when Cher arrived in the ballroom at Dancing With the Stars on Monday, everything about her highly-promoted appearance was very low key: She wore a simple black dress and muted floral shawl. Her hair was down and unadorned. But everyone was aware of her presence, and she couldn't stay quiet before, during and after her son, Chaz Bono, danced the paso doble to "Gonna Fly Now" from Rocky.

Dancing's Chaz Bono: The Support Has Been Overwhelming

Lacey Schwimmer, Chaz Bono

Chaz Bono wants to make it clear: He has not succumbed to the Dancing with the Stars injury curse. Despite lingering knee pain that forced his partner Lacey Schwimmer to change the choreography in their quickstep, the transgendered activist and author says he is not injured — nor is there fear of him getting injured. "My doctor doesn't seem terribly worried," he tells TVGuide.com. "They're feeling pretty good right now. Nothing's wrong with them. I've been icing them and massaging, [doing] a little physical therapy." The good news is that he next has the less physically demanding rumba. See what else he has to say about his knee pain, why it's important for him to go far on the show, and if his mom, Cher, will swing by.

Dancing's Mike Catherwood: I Don't Think I Was the Worst

Mike Catherwood, Lacey Schwimmer

"Psycho Mike" Catherwood may have gotten the lowest score — a 13 — on Dancing with the Stars this week, but he's not letting it bring him down. "I'm using it to kick up my focus a notch," he tells TVGuide.com. "I know I'm not going to be the world's best dancer, but I'll just use it for fuel this week in rehearsal and try to be a lot better and blow their socks off on Monday. I'm probably not capable of doing that, but it's a good way of keeping me motivated." Still, the Loveline radio host doesn't think he was the worst dancer of the night.
