Kyra Sedgwick

Although this slender blonde actress started out on a daytime soap as a teen, she made her name in films playing a variety of smart, sassy, usually supporting characters. While she rarely lacked for work, her talent was often squandered on substandard movies. In her midthirties, Sedgwick attempted to transition to television with the failed sitcom Talk To Me. At 40 she gave the tube a second try as a prickly but effective deputy police chief on the cable series The Closer and the gamble paid off with an Emmy nomination and a Golden Globe award.
