Mars Star Believes in Girls Power

Kristen Bell, Veronica Mars

In Part 1 of our Q&A with Kristen Bell, the Veronica Mars star dished on her decision to dabble in big-screen horror (with Pulse, which opened at No. 5 this past weekend) as well as the (equally scary?) prospect of real-life marriage. Here in Part 2, the actress talks about Veronica Mars' own love life, hangin' out on the Gilmore Girls set, and making beautiful music. TV Guide: Let's talk about Veronica Mars. What have you heard about how [series creator]  read more

Kristen Bell Eyes a Scary-Good Gig

Kristen Bell, Pulse

Although the third season of Veronica Mars doesn't premiere (on CW) until Oct. 3, Kristen Bell fans don't have to wait that long to catch up with their fave. In the horror film Pulse (opening Friday), Bell plays Mattie, a college student who discovers that the evil dead are coming, via the world's cell phones, computers and more. The actress called TV Guide from her home in Los Angeles, surrounded by her dogs and boyfriend — and using a land line, we have to hope.

TV Guide: Having filmed a lot of movies lately, did you want Veronica Mars to come back? Or would you be happy doing features?
Kristen Bell:

I must say that I was shocked ...

Question: I must say that I was shocked to read the TCA Awards results. It seems incredibly unjust that critically acclaimed series on UPN and WB such as Veronica Mars, Gilmore Girls, Everybody Hates Chris and Everwood get left out while shows like Lost, Grey's Anatomy, My Name Is Earl and The Office get all the prizes. I mean, critics often complain about how the Emmys always go for the same-old-same-old, but didn't they do the same? Answer: Oh, climb down off your high horse. At least Lauren Graham was nominated, and for a subpar season. (And in the past, Gilmore Girls was honored by the TCA, something the Emmys has never done.) I was personally disappointed that Battlestar Galactica didn't make the drama cut (though I would never have expected it to win), and that Kristen Bell was not among the drama-performer nominees. But these are not the cult-TV awards, much as I love some of those shows (and honestly, Veronica Mars' sophomore year wasn't as solid as its first, though I'm hopeful ... read more

Ugh! This year's Emmy ...

Question: Ugh! This year's Emmy nominations are complete crap. Damn it, Michael, you should have slept with the judges to get Lauren Graham in there.

Answer: Believe me, had that option been presented to me, I would have whored myself out in a heartbeat. Speaking of the egregious Graham snub, I was chatting with a network exec the day after the noms and he remarked that, with LG's film career heating up, she'll probably be nominated for an Academy Award before she lands her first Emmy bid. How unbelievably ironic (and fitting) would that be? Oh, and in case you're wondering what Rob Thomas thought of Kristen Bell's second consecutive Emmy diss, wonder no more. "Hey, I loved Geena Davis in The Accidental Tourist, too — that doesn't mean she's better in Commander in Chief than Kristen is read more

Emmy gossip! Emmy gossip! ...

Question: Emmy gossip! Emmy gossip! Emmy gossip! Please? I'll buy AA products.

Answer: Tomorrow's the big day! Based on the kudos buzz, I'd say the chances are better than 50/50 that either Lauren Graham or Kristen Bell will snag a nomination. Unfortunately, the chances of Battlestar Galactica getting a nod appear to be slim to slimmer. According to Goldderby.com, Battlestar didn't even make the list of top-10 semifinalists. I'm sorry, but that's frakkin' inexcusable. Actually, I take that back — I'm not sorry.

It's Not E.B. Being Deadwood's Farnum

William Sanderson, Deadwood

On HBO's Deadwood, which premieres its third season this Sunday at 9 pm/ET, amid all the badasses and noblemen, weasely E.B. Farnum does his best to stay out of Swearengen's crosshairs while keeping watch over (and occasionally swindling folks at) the Grand Central hotel. William Sanderson, who plays Farnum, spoke with TVGuide.com about adding the daft Deadwooder to his résumé; and teased what's ahead in the new season.

TVGuide.com: I had to laugh at the pitch your publicist e-mailed over, talking about your career playing "simpleminded backwoods men and snide ne'er-do-wells."
William Sanderson:
Well, there is a reason for that, a read more

Answer: You're welcome.

In her Insider interview with ...

Question: In her Insider interview with Matt Mitovich, Kristen Bell says, "I think that what is done in the final episode hasn't been done on television before. Not in the way of stunts or anything, but the theory behind it, if you really think about it, hasn't been done." Do you know what she is referring to?

Answer: Not a clue. Even Matt's stumped. "I've asked myself the same thing," he told me in an exclusive interview conducted in TV Guide's break room. "Perhaps she was referring to the part where she imagined her alternate life? Or the topic of sexually molested boys?" If I see her at CW's upfront on Thursday, I'll ask her.
