Kirstie Alley Fights an Alleged Big Fat Lie

Kirstie Alley by Mark Sullivan/ WireImage.com

Kirstie Alley may be launching her own weight-loss brand, but she's still fighting a tabloid's allegation that she was released from her spokeswoman role at Jenny Craig because she was too fat. The former Fat Actress star recently ended her three-year stint with the Craig weight-loss company, saying that she had maintained her 75-pound sheddage for over a year and was moving on. Alley's recent departure came as two new spokeswomen — Valerie Bertinelli and Queen Latifah — were signed on as the new faces of the brand. In the Feb. 25 issue, the National Enquirer claimed that Alley was fired for her weight, but she's shooting back. "[It's] hurtful and harmful to me," she said. "I'm going to litigate." Lucky for the rest of us couch potatoes, the suit is not expected to hold up her plans to turn "fat America back into a fit America." — Anna DimondGet the Skinny on Kirstie:• One Day Star Shares One Day of Her Own Life with Oprah• Kirstie Alley (Minus Jenny Craig)... read more

One Day Star Shares One Day in Her Life with Oprah

Valerie Bertinelli may be most recently known for her role as the Jenny Craig spokesperson (see ya, Kirstie!), but now she's sharing the backstory of her rocker-like lifestyle, starting with an appearance on Oprah. On Monday's show, ET says, the actress will discuss her new book, Losing It: And Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time, in which she reveals her cocaine use, infidelity and other personal hurdles. Bertinelli played Barbara Cooper on One Day at a Time but also had a rocky marriage for 24 years to Eddie Van Halen. The actress capitalized on the Jenny Craig op, telling Oprah, "I just figured that if they are going to watch me lose 40 pounds... and there's going to be fat-ass pictures of me with my butt hanging out in Hawaii, I thought, 'Why not let the inner me out, too?'" Kirstie Alley, meanwhile, who was the Jenny Craig spokesperson for the past three years, is starting her own weight-loss brand, with which she promises to make "fat America back into a fit America." Another Betty Gets Ugly

Betty White by John Shearer/WireImage.com

She’s come a long way from St. Olaf! Hot on the heels of her staggering turn as Stephanie’s nasty mama on The Bold and the Beautiful, Betty White has booked a role much closer to home: White will play herself on a December episode of Ugly Betty featuring what is sure to be a priceless taxicab showdown between the Golden Girl and "Mode" magazine’s 14-karat beyotch Wilhelmina Slater. In other Ugly casting news, Tru Calling commodity Eliza Dushku is set to play a cover girl whose stint in rehab is cut short for a photo shoot. (Don’t get any ideas, L.Lo!) Alas, a recent gossip-column bit about Kirstie Alley playing a monstrous modeling agent — and wanting bud John Travolta for a cameo — is allegedly lacking in the truthiness department. —Reporting by Damian Holbrook read more

What, no love for Abe Vigoda?!UPDATE: Turns out Liz Smith was just grabbing at air with this one. Kirstie is a no, though Betty White is a yes (as is a Tru Calling alum). MORE L. RON HUBBUB

Kirstie Alley says, "Shame on you" to Rolling Stone's recent exposé on Scientology. In a letter obtained by the New York Daily News, Alley rails at the music bible for "religion-bashing for the sake of sales," adding, "Your cool factor just dropped to Reader's Digest [level]." (Ouch.) Janet Reitman, who invested nine months of research into her 13,500-word report (and who took direct hits elsewhere in Alley's missive), says the letter "exemplifies why the Church of Scientology has an image problem — rather than debate points of substance, its followers all too often veer into personal attacks." Or beat up on poor South Park. read more

"I... DID?"

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise

Did TomKat dupe all of us by tying the knot months ago, back when their romance was new, fresh and not-so-overpublicized? The National Enquirer is reporting that a Scientology chaplain married Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes last July in a ceremony held during a Caribbean cruise on one of the church's ships. The insta-couple supposedly traded rings bedazzled with Scientology symbols as the likes of John Travolta and Kirstie Alley looked on. A rep for the duo insists to the New York Daily News that "they have not yet wed." read more
