Kirstie Alley

Kirstie Alley says, "Shame on you" to Rolling Stone's recent exposé on Scientology. In a letter obtained by the New York Daily News, Alley rails at the music bible for "religion-bashing for the sake of sales," adding, "Your cool factor just dropped to Reader's Digest [level]." (Ouch.) Janet Reitman, who invested nine months of research into her 13,500-word report (and who took direct hits elsewhere in Alley's missive), says the letter "exemplifies why the Church of Scientology has an image problem — rather than debate points of substance, its followers all too often veer into personal attacks." Or beat up on poor South Park. read more

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise

Did TomKat dupe all of us by tying the knot months ago, back when their romance was new, fresh and not-so-overpublicized? The National Enquirer is reporting that a Scientology chaplain married Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes last July in a ceremony held during a Caribbean cruise on one of the church's ships. The insta-couple supposedly traded rings bedazzled with Scientology symbols as the likes of John Travolta and Kirstie Alley looked on. A rep for the duo insists to the New York Daily News that "they have not yet wed." read more

Question: Hi there! Love the column! Love you more! Do you have any scoop on [insert title here]? Seriously, what aren't we asking for that you just have to scoop on? Your choice.

Answer: Sounds like a good opportunity to unload this King of Queens exclusive: Kirstie Alley will play herself in an episode of Queens to air in early '06. According to my Eye spy, the former Fat Actress hires Realtor Carrie (fellow Scientologist Leah Remini) to help her find a loft in Soho.

That's what Kirstie Alley tells People magazine there is of Showtime renewing her comedy Fat Actress now that she's dropped 50 lbs. "I think [the network execs] have great concerns about me not being fat," she told the periodical. With all due apologies to those of you who may be eating breakfast, I think the suits may have been more concerned that the show left an aftertaste as bad as a plate of day-old French fries. read more

While HBO trumpeted its premiere dates, Showtime was unable to offer a decision on the fate of Fat Actress, which debuted in March to less-than-healthy reviews. A sticking point, apparently, is the fact that zaftig star Kirstie Alley has since dropped 42 lbs., thus raising questions about the series' future focus. I can solve this one: Call it Not-So-Fat Actress. read more
