Kiefer Sutherland and Kim Raver, 24
On the occasion of 24 treating fans to a double episode tonight (starting at 8 pm/ET), TV Guide spoke with some "well-informed" people to find out everything you need to know about the Fox thriller... and a few things you don’t.
Fans loved the budding romance last season between Aaron Pierce and First Lady Martha Logan. Will they finally hook up? "That relationship does have legs, yes,” promises executive producer Jon Cassar. “I don't want to spoil how, but you will see some romance between them this season.”
Speaking of romance, will Audrey go back to Jack? The answer is yes, but the question is when. Says Cassar, “Audrey is the true love of Jack's life and something isn't right until that relationship is figured out. She'll be back, but not for a long while.”
James Morrison, 24
To hear James Morrison sum up his 24 alter ego, "Being Bill Buchanan is like trying to romance a beautiful woman in a crowded bus with a love poem about the Terrorism Index, while a pit bull gnaws its way up my leg." In other words, this guy really knows what his character is about. TVGuide.com welcomed the opportunity to chat up Morrison about Buchanan's wedded bliss, the new day's first two hours gone by, and what lies ahead for Bill, Chloe, Audrey et al.
TVGuide.com: So, when did this whole Bill-Karen Hayes romance happen?James Morrison: It started to happen at the end of the last day. I invited her to breakfast, she asked for a rain check, and sure enough, we ended up going out for a few breakfasts. [Laughs]
TVGuide.com: He pursued her ardently?Morrison: He did, yeah. Once Bill decides that flowers grow wherever a woman steps, he h
When Fox's 24 celebrated the Season 5 DVD release on Monday night in Hollywood, TVGuide.com was there to procure the following bits of Season 6 intel: Exec producer Howard Gordon told us that although he got a call about Kim Raver's availability the instant ABC put The Nine on hiatus, the actress has yet to film any scenes. At this point, Audrey would not put in her first appearance until mid-season, as Gordon says there are no plans to post-tape. Emmy nominee Jean Smart was tight-lipped about the circumstances of the disgraced First Couple's return: "You haven't seen the last of the Logans, that's all I can say. I think it was hard [to have us back], but they figured out a way to touch on that [story] a bit." Carlo Rota, who plays Chloe's ex-husband, revealed, "I'm back in a rather large way. Theyve written a fantastic story arc for Morris. I couldn't be more thrilled the way in which they've developed this character." As for leading lady Mary Lynn Rajskub, ...
Its fate perhaps sealed by the dreadful numbers dialed up last Wednesday night and not at all bolstered by my wonderful Q&A with Kim Raver ABC's The Nine has been pulled from the prime-time lineup, at least for the time being. Taking the serialized drama's place, this week at least, is a special installment of 20/20. Hey, at least it's another show with a number in the title, right? OK, I agree small consolation.UPDATE: This just in from the show's rep: "The Nine is on hiatus now and will return later in the season."
Kim Raver, The Nine
No sooner does Kim Raver miraculously (and barely) survive another crazy day on 24 than she ups and innocently walks into a bank where, whammo — more life-threatening drama, as she plays Kathryn Hale, one of ABC's The Nine (Wednesdays at 10 pm/ET). Alas, her latest thriller is perhaps the only new fall series that has yet to get a full-season order. What's the holdup, so to speak? TVGuide.com asked her about that, the new season of 24 and much more.
TVGuide.com: What's going on with The Nine? Do we have a full-season pickup yet?Kim Raver: I actually don't even know. I haven't heard anything. We're just plugging away until Thanksgiving break, which [started Saturday]. We're off for a week — t
Jeremy (the delightful Scott Wolf) asks his girlfriend, Lizzie (Jessica Collins): It was just a moment.... Does it have to mean everything? This seems to be one of the questions The Nine is setting out to answer. And the answer appears to be yes. In the grand scheme of life, the 52 hours the nine main characters spent together in the bank were essentially just a moment. But the repercussions for the hostages are endless. It is the events destined to follow that are going to make or break this show for me. Scott Wolf has been a favorite of mine since his Party of Five days (before the alcoholism took over his story line), but I wanted to ring his neck when he kissed Franny (Prison Breaks Camille Guaty). Especially considering how adorable and wholesome and pregnant his girlfriend is. Although I have to say, something about Jeremy and Lizzies relationship seems off. Obviously, they were pretty serious. Lizzie was excited to tell him abou...
Today's big news: I woke up to find a zit the size of a Vespa parked on my face. Good times....EXECUTIVE SESSION9:04 am: ABC Entertainment president Stephen McPherson is wearing blue jeans that scream "rock-star network executive!"9:06 am: McPherson announces that he's going to pressure the TV Academy to let us, the nation's top TV critics, decide next year's Emmy nominees. Hey, that was my idea! (And not to split hairs, but it's only supposed to be Matt Roush and me.)9:08 am: McPherson admits if he had to do Commander in Chief over again, he wouldn't have impeached Rod Lurie and replaced him with Steven Bochco. "We would probably bring it on later in the season and let Rod prep for it a lot longer than he had a chance to. He was the voice of that show." 9:08 am: I ask McPherson what he's doing behind the scenes at Desperate Housewives to address last season's "creative collapse." Although he disagrees with the "creative collapse" part I was going to say implosion he c...
Question: I heard that Kim Raver will be getting her own show this coming season and will not be on 24 any longer. Is this true?
Answer: It's true that Kim Raver is in the cast of the excellent new ABC drama The Nine. How that affects her role as Audrey Raines on 24 remains to be seen. If, in fact, Jack Bauer leaves L.A. for the coming season, maybe geography can explain her absence (and maybe she can do some cut-ins by phone, since cell batteries never die on 24, unlike some characters) ...
Question: I see Kim Raver is in ABC's new drama The Nine. Is there any chance she will be doing the new show and 24?
Answer: I'd say there's a very good chance — especially if The Nine doesn't last an entire season, which it probably won't since I hear it's excellent.
Here are some scoopy (and slightly-spoilerish) highlights from my recent Upfront adventures. At ABC's after party yesterday, a little birdie told me that there was a reason Lost baddie Michael Emerson (Henry Gale) made the trek to New York with the rest of the cast to shmooze with advertisers: He's returning next season as a series regular. 24's Kim Raver now one of the stars of ABC's new drama The Nine had this to say about Monday's two-hour finale: "It is unbelievable, and it sets up next season in such an extraordinary way." Hmmm... maybe there is something to those rumors that next season picks up immediately where this season leaves off. I ran into my good buddy JJ Abrams he was on hand pushing his new drama Six Degrees and I'm relieved to report that all the M:I:III hoopla hasn't gone to his head. He was the same old down-to-earth JJ. He told me that he spent the previous night hashing out the plot of the new Star Trek movie with fellow Lost creato...
