Kevin Sorbo by Todd Williamson/WireImage.com
Lest there be any doubt that The Middleman is deserving of some sci-fi/adventure geek cred, Kevin Sorbo of Andromeda and Hercules fame has been tapped to guest-star in the Aug. 11 episode of the brand-new ABC Family series. How cool is that, you ask? Let me tell you just how cool : Sorbo will be playing a 1969 Middleman who had been cryogenically frozen a la Austin Powers — though hopefully boasting better teeth. The retro problem-solver is thawed out when his old arch nemesis, The Candle, resurfaces in the present day and vexes Matt Keeslar's own Middleman. Can you dig it, Sorbo fans? Kevin Sorbo, Avenging Angel
After developing a large hero-worshipping following with 1995-to-1999's syndicated campfest Hercules, then as Gene Roddenberry's starship commander on 2000-to-2005's Andromeda, Kevin Sorbo is now trying his hand at the cowboy genre, as a preacher turned bounty hunter in Hallmark Channel's Avenging Angel (premiering Saturday at 9 pm/ET).
TV Guide: This sounds like a dark Western. Kevin Sorbo: Usually Hallmark is sort of along the lines of G movies, but I'd give this more like a PG-13 — I think this is a big step for them. It's Pale Rider meets
A few casting quickies: As scooped on Monday by the Ausiello Report, Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly) is joining House for the season's penultimate episode, playing a potential love interest for the grumpy doc. See Mike for more. Kevin Sorbo (Hercules, The O.C.) will headline Hallmark Channel's Avenging Angel, playing a fallen preacherman out to punish some church-torching marauders. Also per the Reporter, Andy Serkis, aka the LOTR films' Gollum, will star as Albert Einstein in Einstein and Eddington, a TV-movie collaboration between HBO and the BBC. Doctor Who's David Tennant will play the latter astrophysicist, Sir Arthur Eddington.
On Sept. 15 ABC will premiere Celebrity A-List Bloopers, a special cohosted by Dick Clark and Sherri Shepherd and featuring foul-ups, bleeps and blunders by "Hollywood's biggest stars," including Andy Dick, Wayne Brady, Sharon Osbourne, Ryan Seacrest and Kevin Sorbo. I know what you're thinking: Something is wrong with the "A" on my keyboard.
Former Hercules star Kevin Sorbo and his wife, Sam, have announced that they are expecting a baby in, um, October. (Nothing like waiting till the last minute, Herc.) The couple already have a 4-year-old son, Braeden, and 1-year-old son, Shane. Their births are slated to be announced sometime next year.
