After seeing his unsung turn in last season's underappreciated Journeyman get cut short, Scotsman Kevin McKidd got snatched up by no less than one of TV's hottest shows, ABC's Grey's Anatomy. As Dr. Owen Hunt, a now shell-shocked Iraq war veteran, McKidd has in short order rocked Cristina Yang's world and demonstrated to McDreamy and McSteamy that there's a new McSheriff in town — and you have a feeling he's just getting started. McKidd shared with TVGuide.com a look at what's ahead for Hunt, as well as reflected on time-tripping newsman Dan Vasser's truncated journey.

After watching the promo for the next episode of Grey's, I must ask: Is there anything for Mer-Der fans to look forward to? You know, other than three women lying in Mer's bed while Derek lives downstairs? — Karen
Matt: Well when you phrase it like that, you make me think that Melissa George's debut this week as Sadie, a college pal of Meredith's, will only further muddle things for the would-be Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd. But maybe not. Consider this: Sadie's arrival will prompt Cristina — who feels displaced by her BFF's old BFF — to be a better sounding board for Derek, and that just might ease the tension in the lovebirds' overcrowded nest. Oh, and speaking of Xtina: Kevin McKidd (Owen) is now a series regular.

Scottish writer and former vocalist for the punk band the Skids, Richard Jobson makes his directorial debut with 16 Years of Alcohol, the stylized psychological drama based on his own semi-autobiographical novel. Through voice-over narration and various flashback methods, troubled young man Frankie Mac (Kevin McKidd) recalls his childhood (played by Iain De Caestaecker as a boy) growing up in working-class Edinburgh. In the '50s, his father (Lewis McCloud) was a hard-drinking good-timer and his long-suffering mother (Lisa May Cooper) eventually gave up on the family. As a teenager in the '70s, the violent Frankie falls in with a street gang and tries to clean up to impress record store clerk Helen (Laura Fraser). Bobby (J.S. Duffy) is mentally disturbed and somewhat simple-minded and has become involved with a local gang, the Glens. While walking down the street with Bobby one day, Lex takes an air gun and casually shoots it at some boys, hitting Malky Johnson (Kevin McKidd) in the eye. The leader of a rival gang, the Tongs, Johnson is aware that his girlfriend Joanne Macgowan (Laura Fraser) has a crush on Alan. In 1978, America's PBS made the wise decision of running the ten-part 1977 British adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's tragic novel {-Anna Karenina}. Twenty-two years later, the Boston-based public TV station WGBH entered into another felicitous partnership with the BBC, and the result was a shorter (four-part), but no less vivid adaptation of the oft-filmed Tolstoy work. Naturally, the main emphasis was on the triangular relationship between the titular Anna (Helen McCrory), her influential older husband, Karenin (Stephen Dillane), and the handsome, but faithless Count Vronsky (Kevin McKidd), culminating in disgrace, ostracization, and finally death for the hapless heroine. This time, however, scriptwriter (Allan Cubitt) also gave plenty of air space to the fascinating subplots involving the characters of Levin (Douglas Henshall), Kitty (Paloma Baeza), Oblonsky (Mark Strong), and Dolly (Amanda Root).
