Hope was a major theme on tonight's midseason finale of Grey's Anatomy, for better or for worse. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) may have given up completely on trying to repair their marriage, and Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) found out some devastating news about Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April's (Sarah Drew) baby. On the other end of the spectrum, Dr. Herman (Geena Davis) might have more of a chance at survival than she originally thought, and Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona are making progress towards a reconciliation — though not necessarily a romantic one.
Quiz: Grey's Anatomy plot or Florida news story?
Patrick Dempsey, Caterina Scorsone
We've always known Meredith Grey to be the dark and twisty one on Grey's Anatomy, but apparently she's got nothing on Amelia and Derek Shepherd.
It's Amelia's (Caterina Scorsone) night to shine (or flame out) on Grey's, with her drug-fueled past putting her career in jeopardy. How does she get to this point?
Just when I was ready to give Dr. Herman (Geena Davis) the trophy for "Grey's Anatomy's Most Horrible Character Ever," the show had to go ahead and throw in a brain tumor twist.
Apparently Dr. Maggie Pierce will be sticking around Grey Sloan Memorial for now.
Actress Kelly McCreary has been promoted to a series regular on Grey's Anatomy, TVGuide.com has learned.
Ellen Pompeo, Kate Burton
It's a true Throwback Thursday edition of Grey's Anatomy this week, with all kinds of new information about Ellis Grey (Kate Burton) and her relationship with Richard (James Pickens Jr.) coming to light.
How did everyone feel about all the flashbacks?
Kevin McKidd, Sara Ramirez
At the start of this week's Grey's Anatomy, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is in full needy mode, interrupting Alex (Justin Chambers) in the shower to tell him about her latest half-sister - and complimenting his junk in the process. (This scene proves that I could never be Meredith's roommate, let alone her person.) While hiding from the shower buddies, a jealous Jo (Camilla Luddington) tells Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton) that she's missing Cristina. Who agrees with her?
[A quick Cristina tangent: I really applaud the way the show is handling Cristina's exit with random shout-outs and references. Nothing worse than a show that writes out a character, and their friends and loved ones adopt a policy of never speaking of them again.]
On Thursday's Grey's Anatomy, Maggie (Kelly McCreary) finally worked up the courage to tell Meredith that they're sisters. And it did not go over well.
Grey's Anatomy's newest surgeon, Dr. Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary), has been welcomed to Grey Sloan Memorial with not quite open arms on the part of her (unwitting) half-sister, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). And the dislike is becoming mutual, as viewers saw at the end of last week's episode.
"They're like oil and water," McCreary tells TVGuide.com. "It's a little bit of a heartbreak for [Maggie] to discover that her sister is not somebody that she really wants to know, in spite of the fact that she came all this way to find out."
Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo
Greetings, TVGuide.com Grey's Anatomy fans! I'll be your new recapper for Season 11. Some of you may recall that I vowed to give up on Grey's halfway through last season, but unlike Katherine Heigl, I just can't seem to quit this show. Let's get right to it.
Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey
Grey's Anatomy kicks off its 11th season — in a new time slot! — on Thursday, so what's in store for the docs at Grey Sloan Memorial?
Answer: Plenty of drama — both at home and at work. Would you expect anything less?! We know that Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) will deal with their fair share of ups and downs as he mulls a move to Washington, D.C., and that Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) may find themselves on the rocks again as they deal with trying to have a baby through a surrogate.
