Digital or Film? Keanu Reeves Looks at the "Evolution Revolution" in Movies

International film icon Keanu Reeves is the producer and host of PBS's Side by Side: The Science, Art and Impact of Digital Cinema, a documentary airing Friday, Aug. 30 (check listings) that is, in a way, like the Matrix: No one can be told what it is. You have to see it for yourself. And, trust us, it's so worth your time! TV Guide Magazine spoke with Reeves about this labor of love, which puts him face-to-face with some of the greatest filmmakers of our time — including George Lucas, Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, Steven Soderbergh, David Fincher, Christopher Nolan and James Cameron — as they fervently discuss a major tipping point in motion picture history.

Top Videos: Arrested Development Sneak Peek, Tornado Week, Real Beauty Male Edition

This week, we got a sneak peek at the upcoming fourth season of Arrested Development, which will premiere on Netflix on May 26. Two aspiring filmmakers re-created the bullet sequence from The Matrix shot for shot, and two aspiring scientists blew up a cereal bowl to see what it would look like in slow motion. Kevin Spacey parodied House of Cards at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, and the folks at CollegeHumor parodied Dove's "Real Beauty" campaign. Check out those clips and more in our weekly roundup of the best online videos:

The Day the Earth Stood Still Released … into Outer Space

Twentieth Century Fox's remake of the 1951 sci-fi classic The Day the Earth Stood Still will be the widest release ever — including a journey into outer space.

Fox and a privately owned celestial communications network will use equipment at Cape Canaveral, Fla., to begin beaming Earth Stood Still to Alpha Centauri, the nearest star system to Earth, reports Variety.

This is the first attempt by a Hollywood studio to beam up a movie into space (so... many... Star Trek jokes).

Even if there is life in Alpha Centauri, it will take four years for it to receive the transmission of the sci-fi flick, which boasts a cast including... read more

SAG Goes Mad for Men

I suppose I could dwell on the fact that a major Hollywood guild has once again ignored the very existence of TV's finest acting ensemble, Friday Night Lights — in favor of the mugging and posturing on Boston Legal. As they'd say on another SAG favorite, Grey's Anatomy: Seriously? Is it wrong to want to form our own picket line? Also: What's up with snubbing Pushing Daisies and its fantastical cast? And yet the Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations, announced Thursday morning, did shower love on my favorite new show of 2007, AMC's Mad Men, and its terrific star, Jon Hamm (who has just joined the cast of the remake of the sci-fi classic The Day the Earth Stood Still, with Keanu Reeves as Klaatu, which sounds appropriately robotic). So while not all may be forgiven, the wound stings a little less.My favorite part of the SAG Awards is the ensemble-cast category. Because let's face it, most great TV shows rely on cast chemistry. Even The Closer, which on face value looks like a vehi... read more
