Supernatural Lets Katie Cassidy Go

Katie Cassidy by Sergei Bachlakov/The CW

Sexy Supernatural thief Bela (Lauren Cohan) has already been sent to hell — unlike Dean, she won’t be released — and now the show’s creator Eric Kripke tells TV Guide it’s bye bye to sexy demon Ruby (Katie Cassidy) as well. “She’s great, but this was unfortunately a financial decision — purely budgetary, because creatively she was terrific," Kripke said. "I have nothing but great affection for Katie, and she was great for the show. It was a very difficult business decision about the realities we are in." Though the budget’s the same as last year, the show films in Canada and is suffering from a lousy exchange rate. There will be female characters, Kripke promises. But expect more of the love ‘em, leave ‘em or kill ‘em variety. “We have a plan that’s as exciting as any we’ve ever had of how to thread new characters in some unexpected ways,” he said, adding that the season opener will have a couple of &... read more

All hell has broken loose in the Supernatural community. Ever since news leaked that the show was introducing two new shagadelic female series regulars this coming season, fans have inundated me with hundreds of angry e-mails. Their chief concern: In a bid to broaden the serial thriller's appeal, CW brass are forcing producers to bimbofy the show, hence the two new lady killers (played by Katie Cassidy and Lauren Cohan). In an exclusive interview, series creator Eric Kripke addressed the controversy head-on, clearing the air about the changes ahead and offering a preview of what he's calling "the best season of Supernatural yet." Fans are in a bit of a tizzy. Eric Kripke: First of all, I love our fans. I love them to death. I love how passionate they are. But they tend to worry unnecessarily. They tend to get stressed before they have a chance to judge the finished product. We are so conscious and aware of our fans. We're making the show for the fans; we're not making the show for t... read more

This press release just swooped into my emailbox:On Smallville, the seventh-season premiere kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 27 with the arrival of Kara, AKA Supergirl, played by Laura Vandervoort. Armed with a second-degree black belt, Vandervoort soars into Smallville, catching the eye of both young photographer Jimmy Olsen and budding-villain Lex Luthor. This season on Supernatural, Sam and Dean Winchester get some help fighting evil in the form of two tough-as-nails female hunters. On Thursday, Oct. 4, Ruby, played by Katie Cassidy, the daughter of '70s teen idol and singer David Cassidy, joins the hunt for the masses of demons who escaped from Hell in the second season finale. Exclusive: Supernatural Hires David Cassidy's Daughter

Katie Cassidy by Eric Charbonneau/WireImage.com

Supernatural has filled one of the two new female series-regular roles I first told you about last month. Katie Cassidy — the 20-year-old daughter of '70s teen idol David Cassidy — has been tapped to play Ruby, a fellow demon hunter that Sam and Dean meet in the show's third-season premiere. In the casting breakdown, the character is described as "sexy, brutal and ruthless." Cassidy's previous credits include the features Click, When a Stranger Calls, and Black Christmas and recurring roles on 7th Heaven and Sex, Love and Secrets. She has also signed on to play Lucy Ewing in the long-in-the-works Dallas pic.No word on who'll play Bela, the "beautiful, funny and confident" mercenary who lacks a conscience, but check back in another day or so. I should have a name by then. read more
