Kathryn Bigelow Fast Facts:

Began her career as a painter and had a scholarship to study conceptual art at the Whitney Museum in New York.
First full-length feature was the 1982 biker film The Loveless.
Directed the 1987 music video for New Order's "Touched by the Hand of God."
In 2010, she became the fourth woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director, for her 2009 film The Hurt Locker. Her nomination also put her in competition with her ex-husband, James Cameron, up for his film Avatar.
