Sons of Anarchy: How Long Will Tara Keep Gemma's Secret?

Maggie Siff

The brutal gang rape that Gemma (Katey Sagal) suffered in the Season 2 premiere of Sons of Anarchy caused plenty of pain — and it forged a bond between Gemma and would-be daughter-in-law Tara (Maggie Siff).

"They're really different on the surface, but in some ways they are cut of the same cloth," Siff tells TVGuide.com.

One thing they both have in common: their love for Gemma's son, Jax (Charlie Hunnam). Tara's involvement in Jax's life has led her back to the rough-and-tumble lifestyle of the SAMCRO motorcycle club, something that also brought her closer to Gemma.

"Gemma has decided to help Tara figure out how to navigate the ropes," Siff says. "What's required is that you know what the code is, and Gemma is helping her with that."

Together, the two have uncovered what Siff (Mad Men, Nip/Tuck) calls Tara's "primal" side. Whether its midday target practice on a porn star's car or just turning a blind eye to the clubs less-than-upstanding ways, Siff says it's been a fun diversion... read more

Any Lost scoop? — Ari
MICKEY: You can add Katey Sagal's name to the list of Lost alums who have jetted off to Hawaii to shoot scenes for the final season. Call me a romantic, but I never believed that Locke's beloved Helen was actually dead; that whole cemetery scene reeked of fakery. Plus, we've all heard the rumors about Season 6 employing an alternate timeline (or, more intriguing, a "do-over" of Oceanic Flight 815), which means that even if Matthew Abaddon was telling the truth, Helen is still just as likely to be alive as, say, Charlie, Boone, Shannon, Eko or Juliet.

Cheers: Sons and Daughters

Katey Sagal in Sons of Anarchy by Ray Mickshaw/FX

Cheers to Sons of Anarchy for revving up its female roles. You wouldn't expect a show about an biker gang to be a good vehicle for actresses, but FX's new drama features three strong women: a seriously deglamorized, post-Sopranos Drea De Matteo as a pregnant meth-head; Maggie Siff (so good as Don Draper's businesswoman lover on Mad Men) as a doctor who can't put her biker-chick past behind her; and Katey Sagal (creator Kurt Sutter's real-life wife), who shines as the Sons' Machiavellian matriarch. Peg Bundy would be so proud.• Share your own raves and rants about other shows on the Reader Cheers & Jeers discussion board.• We may feature your Cheer or Jeer on TVGuide.com or in TV Guide magazine! read more

Katey Sagal by Timothy White/FX

Is Sons of Anarchy premiering Wednesday at 10 pmET too hot for even FX to handle Revolving around a band of outlaw motorcyclists the edgy fare would seem in line with the Vic Mackeys and Tommy Gavins of the world But Katey Sagals Gemma Teller the mother of Sons central character played by Undeclareds Charlie Hunnam and a matriarch figure to the rest goes to immoral extremes that would make Patty Hewes blush Shes vicious ferocious a hard-ass Sagal says of her character I look at her as a survivor Whatever her history is it has made her a fighterAnd one unafraid to pull any punches What we can expect says the actress is that if she is at all threatened by any potential break-up of her family or harm to her son she will go to any lengths to protect that Any lengths This is where dog-killer Patty might take pause Defending Gemmas hardcore actions Sagal says People who do things that seem nefarious to other people sometimes don read more

Preview: 30 Rock, Eli Stone

Jonny Lee Miller of "Eli Stone" by Gale Adler/ABC

Ever wondered what a Fox reality show would look like on NBC? Watch, and revel in, the glimpses we’re shown of the fictional (at least for now) reality spoof "MILF Island" in tonight’s first episode back of 30 Rock. Everyone from Alec Baldwin’s deliciously malicious network boss Jack Donaghy to a certain other vice president who should have better things to do are glued to the season finale of "Island," which is what Survivor would look like if populated by cougar moms and adolescent boys. It’s a hilarious backdrop to an episode that, as is often the case, is at its best when Jack and beleaguered Liz Lemon (the terrific Tina Fey) tangle and tango over the sad state of the business we call show. A business where a breakout reality star can be judged on her appeal to the key demographics of “soccer moms, Nascar dads, white-collar pervs and the obese.” How many ways do I love 30 Rock?Liz, the clay-footed hero of this brilliant satire, is naturally appalled... read more

Exclusive: Underbelly Star Joins CSI Sitcom Spoof

Rachael Harris by Jean-Paul Aussenard/WireImage.com, Christine Baranski by Jim Spellman/WireImage.com

It's not Christine Baranski, but this'll do nicely. The sublime Rachael Harris (Notes from the Underbelly, Fat Actress) will play even-tempered sidekick to Cybill Shepherd's Katey Sagal's unhinged sitcom diva in that stuntastic episode of CSI penned by Two and a Half Men scribes Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn. And should there be any lingering doubts that Lorre and Aronsohn modeled Sagal and Harris' characters after Shepherd and Baranski, both of whom the writers worked with on Cybill, this next little tidbit should erase them: Sources confirm what I hinted at last August, that the duo first offered the second-banana role to Baranski herself. That's right, they wanted Baranski to play Baranski! But for whatever reason — possibly this one — she wasn't able to do it. Um, have I told you lately how much I'm looking forward to this episode? read more

Exclusive: CSI Finds Its "Cybill" in Peg Bundy!

Katey Sagal by Barry King/WireImage.com and Cybill Shepard by Mathew Imaging/WireImage.com

OK, now I really can't wait to see this episode. Two and a Half Men scribes Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn have cast ex-Bundy matriarch Katey Sagal to headline their forthcoming revenge fantasy episode of CSI. Sagal will play hellacious sitcom diva Annabelle Bundt — the character not-so-loosely modeled after Lorre and Aronsohn's onetime boss, Cybill Shepherd. Awe. Some. Now let's just pray they get Christine Baranski to play Cybill's Annabelle's even-tempered sidekick, Megan Kupowski. I mean, could you imagine!? I can, and I love it! read more

Peg Bundy Is One Hot Motorcycle Mama

Katey Sagal by SGranitz/WireImage.com

Katey Sagal has been tapped to star in Sons of Anarchy, an FX drama pilot from The Shield's Kurt Sutter (aka Sagal's real-life hubby), says the Reporter. The drama centers on Jack (Undeclared's Charles Hunnam), a twentysomething guy trying to juggle his role as a new dad with his involvement in the titular motorcycle club founded by his late father. Sagal plays Jack's mother and the matriarch of the club. The Sopranos' Allen Coulter is directing the pilot. Me, I already have bugs in my teeth. read more

March 18, 2007: "Hot for Teacher"

As the season finale, this was Glen’s very last time to get lucky with the ladies. And lo and behold, he did! Well… sort of. And with none other than Married with Children’s Peggy Bundy (Katey Sagal, whose voice you may also recognize from Futurama. And who, for the record, is looking great these days). I was glad to see this date go better than Glen’s last date with the gay man from the video store, although I suppose when it comes to Glen, “better” is a relative term. Glen’s role-playing with his old teacher was hilarious, although it was a tad uncomfortable to watch Glen admit he was a virgin. I also love how Glen, upon meeting her, exclaimed, “You have a first name?!” Only a child like Glen would still be uncomfortable calling his old teacher by her first name at the age of 32. All of the sex lessons were hilarious as well. I loved everything from the chalkboard diagrams to the timer! I’m so glad the show has finally made some pr... read more
