Uh-oh! The first trailer for Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries is here and things aren't looking so good for our favorite vamps.
Of course, that's par for the course in Mystic Falls—or should we say Mystic Falls-adjacent, now that magic no longer works within the town limits? Whatever. Either way, Elena and Co. will certainly be struggling when the series returns on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 8/7c.
How will Damon and Bonnie get back from the Other Side? And what exactly is that, anyway?
Those were some of the burning questions that were brought up at The Vampire Diaries panel at Comic-Con moderated by TV Guide Magazine's Damian Holbrook on Saturday. On hand were stars Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Kat Graham, surprise guest Matt Davis and executive producer Julie Plec to answer fan questions and give an idea of what's ahead.

The sound you just heard was about 4,000 Vampire Diaries fans losing their minds over this perfect video that kicked off the show's panel at the San Diego Comic-Con this afternoon. Featuring Kat Graham and Ian Somerhalder musing over the fate of their characters, Bonnie and Damon, now that they've been sucked into oblivion, the video hits all the right notes and brings up a few good questions. Will we see a bigger storyline for Tyler? Could he be Elena's new guy? What is Alaric gonna do now that he's alive again? And most importantly, are "Bamon" gone for good? (Don't make us laugh!)
Here's the clip, which we're sure those in the San Diego Convention Center's packed Ballroom 20 will want to check out ASAP, since there is no way they heard most of the jokes over their room-rattling screams.
The Vampire Diaries
Vampire Diaries fans have seen Elena Gilbert grieve, but when Season 6 premieres, she'll have seemingly moved on from losing the love of her life, Damon.
"One of the big questions you'll be asking when we get back is how did she pick up the pieces?" executive producer Julie Plec told TVGuide.com. "Or did she pick up the pieces at all? When we come back, several months have passed and Elena has returned to her life at school and seems to be doing well, but the mystery is really how well is she doing? And she's got some odd and awkward coping mechanisms that inform a lot about where she is and how she's handling this particular grief."
The Vampire Diaries has a new sheriff in town.
Eureka's Colin Ferguson has been cast as Tripp, TVGuide.com has confirmed. Tripp is a strong and disciplined head of a community militia and surrogate father to his young trainees who will do anything to protect his town. He'll first appear in the Season 6 premiere, which takes place following a significant time jump.
Executive producer Julie Plec first teased the news on Twitter writing, "He's in town to give Sheriff Forbes a run for her money." Ferguson, best known for playing Sheriff Jack Carter on the Syfy series, also shared his excitement about joining the CW drama adding:

Change is coming to The Vampire Diaries.
The CW show's fifth season wrapped up by executing a plan to save the Other Side. After getting all The Travelers in one place, and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and Matt (Zach Roerig) setting up a gas leak, Damon (Ian Somerhalder), with Elena (Nina Dobrev) in tow, crashed through the Mystic Grill causing a massive explosion that killed all parties involved. Once on the Other Side, while Liv (Penelope Mitchell) enacted a resurrection spell, Stefan (Paul Wesley), Elena, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and Alaric (Matt Davis) were able to cross back through...

Stefan isn't really staying dead on The Vampire Diaries, right? That's the big question heading into Thursday's Season 5 finale.
As the Other Side crumbles and The Travellers' plan to rid Mystic Falls of all spirit magic is in full effect, it's a race against time to figure out how to solve those very big problems. With Stefan (Paul Wesley) having his heart ripped out in the final moments of last week's episode, now more than ever do Elena (Nina Dobrev), Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Bonnie (Kat Graham), Caroline (Candice Accola) & Co. need to pull together to bring Stefan back — and also save themselves from impending doom.

How will Damon react to the death of his brother? By threatening Bonnie!
On The Vampire Diaries' penultimate episode, Stefan (Paul Wesley) was shockingly killed in the final minutes by the Traveler inhabiting Tyler's body. And with the Other Side disintegrating, Stefan could potentially go away forever. Now Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is downright pissed, and he is taking it out on the wrong person considering Bonnie (Kat Graham) is their biggest hope to figuring out a way to bring Stefan back.
Enzo is down, but he's not out quite yet.
Although the witty vampire was killed on Thursday's Vampire Diaries, he will still be a villainous force throughout the rest of the season
On Thursday's episode, Damon's one-time cell partner Enzo (Michael Malarkey) finally found out the fate of his love Maggie (Heather Hemmens). He not only learned that she was dead, but also that his best friend Damon (Ian Somerhalder) had killed her in the 1960s...
