Kari Matchett by John Shearer/WireImage.com
One of the new faces on ER this season is that of Kari Matchett, who plays traveling doc Skye Wexler. "She's just dropping in to Chicago to do a month or two of locum work in order to make money to go surfing," says Matchett. "That's her real passion." Being County General, another passion soon beckons, with Wexler finding a love interest on Thursdays episode. "She's a pretty noncommittal woman... but she digs this guy a lot," teases the actress. "It's not the obvious choice, but it's a good one." And given her five-episode arc, perhaps a bit more than a mere roll in the hay. Of course, milling about in the world of medicine came natural to Matchett, who worked hospitals on two of her most recent gigs, Heartland and Invasion. "Prior to making the decision of becoming an actor, I wanted to be a doctor," she admits. "I feel like somehow I've gotten the best of both worlds." Reporting by Bekah Wright

This was definitely one of the tougher episodes in recent memory especially being the mother of a son Watching Gates brave young patient succumb to his terminal respiratory disease was almost too much to bear The scene with the chaplain and the mother watching his struggle for each breath was heartbreaking made even more so by the courage and conviction the boy demonstrated by making the decision not to go on a ventilator On a much more lighthearted note I felt like there was a lot of chemistry between Sam and Gates as they butted heads over the ethical handling of the case Ive said it before but I really feel like a Sam-Tony pairing would be an interesting place to go especially when you think about the kids and the connection they would have there Come on ER writers throw me a boneAs Pratt and Morris opted for a rather nontraditional approach to preparing for their board exams a new attending came on the scene I loved Kari Matchett on both Invasion and St

Kari Matchett by Jeff Vespa/WireImage.com
As I first scooped in Ask Ausiello, ER has admitted the luminous Kari Matchett (Invasion, 24, Heartland) to play County General's newest attending. Her character, Skye Wexler, is described as tough and outdoorsy and is moonlighting in the ER to raise money for her world travels. And although an interoffice romance would seem inevitable c'mon, look at her a Peacock insider insists there are no immediate plans for Skye to bed any of her fellow docs. (The key word there being immediate.)Matchett's first airdate is Nov. 1, roughly one week after Reiko Aylesworth shows up as the hospital's hot and hip new chaplain. In related news, I so wasn't planning to watch ER this season, but these back-to-back casting coups are going to make it hard to resist. Am I right or am I right?

Treat Williams, Heartland
Good ol’ Dr. Andy Brown is still putting people back together, only these days Treat Williams is specializing in cutting-edge transplants as Nathaniel Grant on TNT’s brand-new Heartland (Mondays at 10 pm/ET). TVGuide.com invited Williams to preview what’s ahead for his new surgeon, as well as reflect on Everwood’s unfortunate fate.
TVGuide.com: First off, let’s talk to the Everwood fans out there. What will they find familiar about your new doc, and what will they find different?Treat Williams: Hmm, that’s a good question. Not too much familiar, a lot different. This is the guy that Andy Brown probably was in New York, five years before he came to Everwood — very caught up in a very high-stress environmen

Check your TV's thermostat. If the temperature's rising to alarming new levels, boiling over with riotous politically incorrect humor and scorching the screen with personal drama that's as wrenching as it is raunchy, you must be watching Rescue Me (Wednesdays, 10 pm/ET on FX).
In its fourth season, FX's bravely unsparing tragicomedy about a twisted brotherhood of New York firefighters is more obsessed than ever with outmoded codes of manliness. These flawed, funny antiheroes bust each other's chops at any sign of vulnerability, but the joke is almost always on them.
Not that Tommy Gavin (Denis Leary), the crew's No. 1 jokester, is in a laughing mood. He's under investigation for insurance fraud after last season's climactic beach fire, set by psycho Sheila (Callie Thorne

InvasionI thought I saw Christina in a trailer for The Hills Have Eyes. When they ran the trailer for the second time, I was almost convinced. So I had it all figured out: If you see a TV actress in a horror-movie trailer, during the TV show in which she stars, she will soon die on said TV show. Pretty sweet. Except when I went to the trusty Internet to confirm the stars of the film, I found an entirely different actress, Emilie de Ravin. And so Claire's gonna die on Lost. Great theory. Now I know what you're saying: "But dude, Christina did die," and then I can say, "the show got canceled," and you'll believe me because I work here. Don't believe anything you read, or anything, ever. What you can believe is me when I say: N

InvasionHoly. Rip. Off. Did you see... I can't believe... flashbacks... planes crashing... suspense... character development... I can't even think of any smart-ass remarks. I may have a new disease, and I'm calling it "Writer's Blah." In essence, it means I'm so intent on comparing this show to Lost that I can't. All I can do is give props. So what, if it's going with what works? It may be riding coattails, drafting or just copying. Either way, it's smart and has me glued to my seat.
You know how there's always some jerk in your office who thinks he knows everything, and is usually right? Don't worry, he just got served. This new species of drama that ABC is serving up has me — I mean, him — totally speechless.

Status report on the networks' attempts to bring sci-fi/fantasy back to prime time: CBS' Threshold is, sadly, history. NBC's Surface will be history soon enough (at least for this season), with only a handful of episodes to go. But ABC's Invasion — which triggered an outpouring of confused and worried mail when it disappeared in early December to be replaced by a couple of Alias episodes — is finally returning this week (Jan. 11, 10 pm/ET) and is expected to play out a full season's worth of episodes.
I don't know if absence made my heart grow fonder, but Invasion has now invaded my psyche. With this week's episode, the show is kicking into high gear. It's gone beyond creepy to the realm of the a

Kari Matchett: She's hot because she's an alien doctor, right? I don't know, the lady confounds me with hot-or-not-itude. Great casting, though, since we can't figure out what she is either. I'm not above thinking that if she had gills, it could help. Of course, it would also help if she weren't married to Sheriff Shady. I could go on about all the girls on this show, but then I'd be falling for their trap — which is to keep us entertained while we forget about hurricanes. Which is fine, since my parents winter in Florida. I wanted to say "winter" because it sounds cool, but adding "Florida" kind of ruins it. Either way, we're tired of weather with names, and the drama is making me think about caring for some of these characters. But wait, before I get the chance to say "Jesse, don't go in that boat, which is on the water, and we al
