Amy Brenneman may play a silent character on HBO's The Leftoversbut the five-time Emmy nominee has plenty to say about her character, Guilty Remnant member Laurie Garvey.

On Sunday's episode, Laurie and the rest of the G.R. grapples with the fact that someone brutally stoned fellow cult member Gladys (Marceline Hugot) to death. Question: With Emmy nominations coming up, I had a few questions about Orange Is the New Black. What effect if any do you think Season 2 airing just around the time of Emmy voting will have on the show? Thankfully, Season 2 seems to have lived up to its predecessor in the eyes of the critics (I thought the season overall might have even been better than the first), and performances by cast members like Uzo Aduba (Suzanne "Crazy Eyes") and Samira Wiley (Poussey) blew me out of the water, but if the season didn't live up to expectations, could it have possibly hurt the show in the nominations process this year as well as next? And do you think the fantastic performances by Aduba and Wiley this season could potentially help them as they try to get nominated for their work on the first season? — Kevin

Why The Leftovers Isn't Lost: We're Not "Hoping to Find Out What Happened," Boss Says

Justin Theroux

Go ahead and compare HBO's new drama The Leftovers to LostJust go on and get it out of you system.

On the surface, the two shows undoubtedly share some DNA. Both were co-created by Damon Lindelof. Both explore the struggle between science and faith. And both feature a large cast of characters trying to move on from a life-altering event. But the thing that sets the two shows apart is crucial: While Lost was derided by many for the answers it provided to the show's once-celebrated head-scratchers, The Leftovers has absolutely zero interest in explaining its central mystery.

Will Damon Lindelof's The Leftovers Be the New Lost?

Damon Lindelof

When 140 million people suddenly disappear from the planet in a Rapture-like event, those left behind must figure out how to go on without their loved ones. Unfortunately, The Leftovers won't venture to answer the why too quickly — if at all — making Damon Lindelof's new HBO drama seem almost as mythos-heavy as his last, the sometimes frustratingly intricate Lost.

Starring Justin Theroux, Liv Tyler, Christopher Eccleston and Amy Brenneman, The Leftovers picks up three years after the big departure and follows the lives of those struggling to get by. With the time jump, Lindelof hopes... read more
