The nominations are based on YouTube data over the past year based on fan engagement, including views, likes, shares, comments and subscriptions. The winners of each of the six categories will be determined by fan votes, counted by sharing the official YouTube Music Awards nomination videos on Twitter, Facebook and Google+.

Harry Connick Jr. is returning to American Idol full-time. The former mentor is in the process joining Idol's upcoming 13th season as the third judge, according to the The Hollywood Reporter.
Dr. Luke was originally slated to help replace departing judges Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson and Nicki Minaj, but he dropped out of negotiations last week due to a conflict with his label at Sony Music. Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun was also rumored to be the next possible frontrunner, but he reportedly passed.

Sean Kingston has been sued by a woman who accuses the "Beautiful Girls" singer of gang raping her in 2010, TMZ reports.
Carissa Capeloto, now 22, claims in the lawsuit that Kingston, his bodyguard and a member of Kingston's band forced themselves on her at a Seattle hotel in July 2010. Before the alleged rape, Capeloto says she smoked pot and drank seven to 10 shots of vodka.
