  • Episode Recap: "Candy Richards" | Nip/Tuck | 2/20/2008
Back on November 14, 2006, when we saw the future lives of the Nip/Tuck characters, I mostly praised the episode since it was such a pleasant change of pace. What I wasn't thinking at the time was how unfortunate it would become as a viewer that we know exactly what will become of the characters. So Julia got shot last week — so what? We know that she survives since she was in the future episode. So Christian and Annie got in a car crash caused by paparazzi this week. We knew immediately... read more
  • Episode Recap: "August Walden" | Nip/Tuck | 2/13/2008
That ending was a real bang, wasn't it? Oh, Julia. If you're going to buy a gun for self-protection, protect yourself by hiding it from others. All Eden the skank needed to do was find that damn gun in Julia's bedroom. I knew that as soon as Julia told Eden that she figured everything out — that Eden was the one who was the cause of her mysterious illness — Eden wasn't going to react in a good way. How about the timing of Julia receiving her follicle lab results that clearly included... read more
  • Episode Recap: "Lulu Grandiron" | Nip/Tuck | 2/6/2008
As I've been quite verbal about in the past, I was a huge Knots Landing fan. So after reading about this episode and then seeing the coming attractions last week, I was, needless to say, excited. I mean, how could I not be? Donna Mills was portraying a rich Beverly Hills socialite named Lulu Grandiron and she and her friends married wealthy high-powered execs, "divorced them and then took all their money." And adding to a true Knots fan's delight, one of those friends (Annette) was played by... read more
  • Episode Recap: "Kyle Ainge" | Nip/Tuck | 1/30/2008
After talkin' smack about last week's episode, I'm happy to say I enjoyed this one more. I wouldn't place it in the "fabulous" file, but it sure was better than a week ago. I specifically liked the macabre feel, especially in my favorite scene: the way Colleen (Sharon Gless) killed CAA talent agent Bob Levitz (Todd Cahoon)! I'll get to that later. I want to start with how differently I felt about the Colleen character this week compared to last. Now that we realize she really isn't the power... read more
  • Episode Recap: "Magda & Jeff" | Nip/Tuck | 1/23/2008
I'm going to cut to the chase and say that this was one of my very least favorite episodes since the series began, but that ending was one of the best ever. How's that for running the gamut? Let's start with that ending: Ding-dong the witch is dead! Just when I thought I was happy to see Gina back because I thought she changed her wicked ways, here she was being more sadly pathetic than ever. So pathetic that I grimaced every time she was on screen after that scene when she paid the... read more
  • Episode Recap: "Rachel Ben Natan" | Nip/Tuck | 1/16/2008
After a four-week break, it was nice to revisit the adventures of our favorite fantastically plastic duo. Too bad we still don't know what Eden put in that dang fruitcake four weeks ago. All we know is that it gives Julia spontaneous nosebleeds, which just makes Christian pout about being deprived of sex with his best friend's ex. Speaking of Eden, how lovely to have a completely Eden-free episode! Sure, the skank returns next week, but it was pleasant to get through an entire hour without her.... read more
  • Episode Recap: "Duke Collins" | Nip/Tuck | 12/19/2007
Just like last week, I want to start with the ending. How many of you were reminded of the final episode of The Sopranos with that quick fade to black? I kept thinking something shocking or tragic was going to happen since I knew it was the final minute of the show. "Silent Night" was heard in the background simultaneously with a dramatic beat, while slow camera shots of each character were shown. Once Eden walked in with her fake smile and Sean looked down, avoiding her, the one thing I... read more
  • Episode Recap: "Dr. Joshua Lee" | Nip/Tuck | 12/12/2007
Where do I start? So much happened in this episode that my head is spinning. I guess I'll start with the ending: Matt catching himself on fire and jumping off the balcony into the swimming pool. Call me a drug novice, but I am guessing Matt was freebasing cocaine or crack or "cooking" meth and since he was so out of it, he accidentally set himself on fire. Can we assume since he was carefully trying to read the "how to" instructions that when Matt and Kimber would do their drugs, it was Kimber... read more
  • Episode Recap: "Damien Sands" | Nip/Tuck | 12/5/2007
After weeks of dark-themed episodes, it was a pleasant diversion to watch this "Nip/Tuck special event," as the promos announced. If any show can make fun of itself via a copycat reality-show version, it's this one. I loved that it started and ended like a regular episode, but that the entire, approximately 40-minute middle portion was the reality-show replica called "Plastic Fantastic." And yes, I thought it was fantastic. Fantastically hilarious, that is. Did you notice that there was no... read more
  • Episode Recap: "Chaz Darling" | Nip/Tuck | 11/28/2007
TV villains throughout the years have ranged from characters that you love to hate to those you simply just hate and wish would go away. Ben (Michael Emerson) from Lost, Alexis (Joan Collins) from Dynasty, J.R. (Larry Hagman) from Dallas and Abby (Donna Mills) from Knots Landing would fall into the first category. Eden (AnnaLynne McCord) definitely belongs in the second one. Ugh! The character has no redeeming qualities — I actually cringe whenever she is on screen. Do I find fault in the... read more
  • Episode Recap: "Dawn Budge II" | Nip/Tuck | 11/21/2007
As a longtime Rosie fan, I was looking forward to her return as lottery winner Dawn Budge, as were a lot of you. I was skeptical, though: How could they make it believable for any former McNamara/Troy patients from their Miami years to fly to L.A., besides having them there just to visit? That question was answered quite well after we got to experience seeing Dawn hang gliding in Calgary and being attacked in the mouth by a flying eagle. Truly one of the funniest Nip/Tuck visuals ever — so... read more
  • Episode Recap: "Everett Poe" | Nip/Tuck | 11/14/2007
Just as I had heard, this third episode had more drama and less comedy than the first two episodes. As anyone who lives in Los Angeles can attest, it's not all sunshine and lollipops all the time here in La-La-Land. So I was not surprised at the tone throughout most of this hour. It didn't mean there weren’t any zingers every now and then, thanks to two of my favorite Nip/Tuck writers, Lyn Greene and Richard Levine (Richard also directed the episode). I'll get to some of those great lines... read more
  • Episode Recap: "Joyce & Sharon Monroe" | Nip/Tuck | 11/7/2007
Once again, seeing Christian and Sean in their new Hollywood surroundings hit home for me. Our TV Guide corporate offices are directly across the street from Grauman's Chinese Theatre, so we see those celebrity look-alike characters every day. As soon as I saw Fat Elvis appear in this episode, I said out loud: "Yes! Fat Elvis!" Coincidental side note: I shared an elevator with Fat Elvis this morning — I swear (but the one used in the show was a different one, played by actor James Price).... read more
  • Episode Recap: "Carly Summers" | Nip/Tuck | 10/31/2007
Why hello, strangers. It's been ages since I've blogged about this show (10.5 months, to be exact). I'm hoping that most of you will agree that the Season 5 premiere was well worth the wait, especially after all the hype and advance publicity (awesome job, by the way, FX). After four seasons in Miami, it was a welcome change of pace seeing our favorite nippers and tuckers start anew in our country's plastic-surgery capital, Los Angeles. As we expected, Christian (Julian McMahon) and Sean (Dylan... read more
  • Nip/Tuck Preview: Swimming Pools and Movie Stars | TV Guide Interviews & Features | 10/30/2007
Lucy and Ricky did it. So did Laverne and Shirley. Now Drs. Sean McNamara and Christian Troy are moving to greater Los Angeles ? specifically, Beverly Hills ? just in time for Nip/Tuck's Season 5 premiere tonight at 10 pm/ET on FX. While cynics might cry that a series changing locales for its fifth season is a stunt, it actually makes perfect sense for the firm of McNamara/Troy to relocate to the plastic-surgery capital of the world. "It was smart that Ryan [Murphy, Nip/Tuck's creator] ... read more
  • Nip/Tuck Goes Hollywood (Literally) | TV Guide News Report | 10/23/2007
They’re back. Miami’s busiest plastic surgeons are back in business, but they’ve moved operations to Los Angeles, where they hope they’ll duplicate some of their successes. The Nip/Tuck duo have a rough start, but soon, Sean and Christian have everything they think they want.TV Guide hung out on the red carpet at Saturday's Nip/Tuck season premiere screening at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. While newly ultrathin star Joely Richardson was a no-show, and her former beau,... read more
  • Exclusive: Nip/Tuck's Christian and Sean in "3-D" | TV Guide News Report | 10/11/2007
Nip/Tuck's Christian Troy and Sean McNamara are giving new meaning to the word "shallow" as part of their move to Beverly Hills. As of today, TV's favorite plastic surgeons can be seen in hologram-like form by anyone visiting the Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, California. The video presentation is part of a promotion for the FX series' Oct. 30 Season 5 premiere.FX hired viZoo, a Denmark-based company that develops new media with an "edge," to produce content showing Drs. Troy and... read more
  • Nip/Tuck: A Fresh Start in L.A. | Roush Dispatch | 7/12/2007
Just when you thought you'd had your fill of those over-the-top plastic surgeons on FX's Nip/Tuck, they've shaken things up and moved those hot docs Christian Troy (Julian McMahon) and Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) to the world capital of face-lifts and body augmentation, Los Angeles, for the fifth season. (The first of 22 new episodes will premiere in October; it hasn't yet been determined how this season will be broken up.)Series creator Ryan Murphy took the stage Thursday at a Television... read more
  • Big Deals: Nip/Tuck Raises, Bridget Loves ABC | Today's News: Our Take | 6/20/2007
Nip/Tuck stars Dylan Walsh and Julian McMahon will receive seven-figure bonuses on top of their standard five-percent salary increases for the coming Season 5, sources tell the Hollywood Reporter. The bump bolsters each actor's total compensation to about $125,000 for each of 22 episodes.... • December 12, 2006: Gala Gallardo (Season 4 Finale) | Nip/Tuck | 12/13/2006
I don't know about you, but unlike last year's Carver-involved finale, I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's season finale and its ending with Christian surprisingly joining Sean in L.A. And I, of course, will tell you just why I enjoyed it:Bye-bye, Escobar, it's been nice knowing ya: I was overjoyed that Escobar was finally killed, and not by Liz. For a brief moment, I really thought Liz was going to pull the trigger. It would've been a good way to get revenge on the person responsible for her lack... read more
