TV's Highest Paid Stars: What They Earn

There is a new king of late night, according to TV Guide Magazine's annual survey of star salaries. And he's a very rich king.

The Daily Show host Jon Stewart is now earning between $25-30 million a year, according to several sources (his network, Comedy Central, did not comment). That puts Stewart ahead of the past perennial late night salary leaders Jay Leno and David Letterman. Leno took a significant pay cut last year, as NBC wanted to reduce costs at Tonight. He now earns around $20 million a year after being up near $30 million. Letterman is also said to be in the $20 million range as the license fee CBS pays to his production company, Worldwide Pants, for Late Show has been reduced in recent years.

Judge Judy Sheindlin's son, district attorney Adam Levy, is being accused of interfering in a child rape case, The Associated Press reports.

Levy's personal trainer Alexandru Ionut Hossu, who also recently lived with Levy, was arrested last week on charges of rape stemming from a 2010 incident that the victim only recently reported. Although Levy, the Putnam County District Attorney, recused himself from the investigation, Sheriff Donald Smith says he's still involved.

Daytime Emmy Awards in Jeopardy

Doesn't anyone want this golden gal anymore? The Daytime Emmy nominations will be announced May 4, but so far no network has agreed to air the ceremony. A rep for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences claims negotiations are still in play, but insiders say a live Internet feed may be more likely than a telecast. The awards, even if they're a no-cameras affair, are expected to take place June 23 in Beverly Hills.

Emmy's Verdict Is In: Court Shows Get a Category

After years without representation, the Daytime Emmys have added court shows as a category in the annual kudosfest. With the numbers of court shows rising year after year, the National Academy of TV Arts & Sciences will no longer relegate them to catch-all categories, which pitted shows like Judge Judy against MTV's Made and TLC's Baby Story, Variety says. Michael Rourke, who exec-produces two court shows for Sony Pictures TV, explained, "For a long time, people didn't really know what to do with court shows.... The genre was an orphan." Poor Judy! Now that the initial wave of The People's Court has come and gone — and the genre has remained strong — the gavel's getting an acknowledgment of its own. The Daytime Emmy nominees will be announced April 30, with the awards telecast airing June 20 on ABC (8 pm/ET). Is it time that court shows found a place in the awards limelight?
