Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country marks the sixth feature film in the Star Trek series. The crews of the Enterprise and the Excelsior must stop a plot to prevent a peace treaty between the Klingon Empire and the Federation.

On patrol, the USS Excelsior, commanded by Captain Hikaru Sulu, is slammed by a shock wave traveling through space. Investigation shows that the wave came from Klingon space. The Klingon homeworld of Qo'noS (pronounced Kronos) is thrown into turmoil after the explosion of their homeworld?s moon, Praxis, a key Klingon energy production facility, damages their homeworld?s atmosphere. Estimates are made that the accident will have depleted the Klingon Homeworld's atmosphere in 50 years. No longer able to maintain a hostile footing, the Klingon Empire sues for peace with the Federation. Starfleet chooses to send the USS Enterprise to meet with Chancellor Gorkon and escort him to negotiations on Earth, a decision that doesn?t sit well with Captain James T. Kirk, whose son David Marcus died at the hands of Klingons, defending Lieutenant Saavik in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.

Captain James T. Kirk attends the christening of the USS Enterprise-B, successor to the USS Enterprise-A, which he commanded. This unfinished and unprepared Enterprise-B is commanded by the young and inexperienced Captain John Harriman. Pressed into a rescue mission during its maiden voyage, Enterprise rescues 47 El-Aurian refugees caught in an 'energy ribbon.' Among those rescued is Tolian Soran and Guinan. Captain Kirk appears to be killed during the rescue mission. Seventy-eight years later, the USS Enterprise-D, captained by Jean-Luc Picard, receives and responds to a distress call from the Amargosa solar observatory station. The crew finds that the station has been attacked, apparently by Romulans. One survivor, Tolian Soran, returns to the station ostensibly to complete an important experiment. Soran then launches a trilithium-based projectile into the heart of the Amargosa star, causing it to nova. He takes Geordi La Forge prisoner aboard the station, and escapes with him aboard a Klingon bird-of-prey belonging to the Duras sisters.
