Tonight's episode truly marked a milestone for our favorite Harper men. Not only did it bring an end to Alan's days of alimony, but it also gave Charlie a taste of what it's like to be on the receiving end of "a meaningless fling." As for Jake, well, it proved to be a messy night for him, too. First, let's talk about Myra (Judy Greer). I really hope this isn't the last we see of her. She and Charlie had a good, albeit brief relationship, and it was rather enjoyable to watch Charlie fall into a more vulnerable role for once. Part of me wonders if that wasn't a case of Charlie wanting something he couldn't have, or if he really did think he'd found his match. Question: I have recently started watching Love Monkey reruns on VH1 and have completely fallen in love with the show. (Tom Cavanagh rules!) I only wish I and about a million other people had started watching the show earlier so that we could all look forward to many seasons to come. My question: Oftentimes, such as with Love Monkey or My So-Called Life, other channels will pick up episodes and rerun them for the "cult" fans. Why can't these same channels actually produce new episodes for the show, knowing they already have a large fan base? Is it that difficult to obtain rights to a show that another network has already canceled?
Answer: From what I've read of VH1's numbers for Love Monkey so far, I wouldn't overestimate how "large" that fan base is, though it certainly deserves one. No one dies in the pilot episode of the mid-season charmer Love Monkey (premieres Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 10 pm/ET), and that has me worried. Can CBS and its audience embrace an hourlong show that dares to exist outside the world of the crime-drama procedural? (Didn't work so well for the sci-fi Threshold.)
But maybe Love Monkey will turn out to be CBS' next Northern Exposure. Granted, the music scene in New York City is a far cry from Cicely, Alaska, but this amiable comedy-drama shares the attributes of quirky humor, great banter from cool characters and a passion for living life on one's own terms. It's sexy, funny, hip and heartfelt.
