30 Rock, Mad Men Repeat, While Jon Cryer and Toni Collette Surprise at Emmys

Alec Baldwin

"Congratulations guys, unbelievable" host Neil Patrick Harris said of seven-time Emmy champ Amazing Race at Sunday's 61st Primetime Emmy Awards. "Upsets at every turn."

Harris was joking about his loss in the supporting comedy actor category to Two and a Half Men's Jon Cryer, but also ironically summing up the mood on a night when repeat winners ruled with just a few new faces sprinkled in.

Chris Harrison on Fake Interviews, Lucky Charms and His "Great Partnership" with Carrie Ann

Chris Harrison

I want to start this blog with a little homage to Patrick Swayze. I know a lot has been written and said since his death Monday afternoon. I will just add this, Point Break, Roadhouse... thanks Patrick.

I wasn't sure how the blog thing would work, but I love that you can leave your comments below. I agree with those of you that love Jon Cryer and, yes, the duck man will always live on. Jon really is a great guy, and you might be surprised to find that he's a pretty darn good athlete. I did the Malibu Triathlon with him last year, and he whipped my butt.

As for the few of you that took the time to say you don't enjoy red carpet shows, I say this to you... read more

Can you please explain to me ...

Question: Can you please explain to me why Two and a Half Men garnered as many Emmy nods as it did? I tried watching an episode and couldn't even make it through the full 30 minutes! I mean no offense to Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer, Holland Taylor or Conchata Ferrell, but are we supposed to believe that all four turned in Emmy-worthy performances? I can see why the show has viewers (it's an easy, no-thinking-required program), but all the Emmy attention has me totally perplexed. The show is like macaroni and cheese: comforting and dependable, but you don't give it a gold ribbon. I guess I'm lashing out because Gilmore Girls was consistently ignored, while shows I see as dreck receive accolades. So, Matt, if you could please enlighten me about this issue, I'd really appreciate it — it's just not healthy to be this angry about a TV show. Answer: This one doesn't bother me so much. I think there should be room on the list for at least one traditionally produced comedy (as in: filmed ... read more

May 14, 2007: Who's Your Daddy?

Like two little kids in a candy store, Alan and Charlie could not be more giddy over the idea of Teddy (Robert Wagner), becoming their new daddy. Only it wasn't the lure of candy that had these two giggling with excitement. It was more about the "toys" they would get to play with, such as a limo, a private plane, a penthouse suite and ringside tickets to a boxing match in Vegas. However, the trip to Sin City did serve a larger purpose. Teddy had plans of popping the question to Evelyn, and he wanted Charlie and Alan's blessing to move forward with the proposal. Somewhere between the gelato and the prostitutes, the guys managed to give him their enthusiastic approval. Should they have been at all concerned that Teddy lied to their mother about their little outing, branding it as a business trip? Nah, if anything, I think that indiscretion only scored Teddy more points with them. Besides, they had a wedding to plan now!The funniest and most shocking point of the night came when Cha... read more

April 30, 2007: Beginner's Luck

I'm impressed. This week, Charlie took Jake to the racetrack and the youngest Harper managed to win more than $1,000, with a bet on a horse that had 80-to-1 odds! I went to the racetrack this past Sunday (purely for research purposes, of course), methodically studied the stats of each horse and jockey, contemplated track conditions and other various factors... and after five races, let's just say I'm no closer to buying that new car I've had my eyes on! Further driving home the point that I have no business being at a racetrack, I caught a glimpse of a beautiful Aston Martin on my way out of the parking lot. It's just not fair. Joining me in the bad-luck club was Alan, who managed to spend his entire Saturday at the DMV, despite having made an appointment. Feeling sorry for his fellow neighbors who had a much longer wait ahead of them, Alan not only gave away his snack bar, but he ultimately fell victim to the charms of a beautiful woman, who managed to swindle Alan out of his prime... read more

Wedding plans are really underway for Two and a Half Men’s Jon Cryer and his fiancée, TV Guide Channel’s Lisa Joyner. With the June wedding date inching closer, the groom-to-be exclusively tells TV Guide, “We’re having a tiny wedding in Mexico in front of just family and then we’re going to have a big blowout party the next week in LA.” And what about their honeymoon? “We were planning on going to Hong Kong but the problem is we both have tough schedules,” says Cryer. “So we’re going to go on a pre-honeymoon where we just leisure in Mexico for a few days before the wedding. We’re having our honeymoon before the wedding basically.” Smart man. —Reporting by Ali Gazan read more
