Mars' Jason Dohring, You've Got Mail!

Jason Dohring, Veronica Mars

The big idea: Chat up Jason Dohring about all things Veronica Mars — past, present and future — in connection with this, the day UPN's supersleuth series returns to Tuesday nights (at 9 pm/ET). The big problem: Dohring's, like, mad busy filming the season finale. Luckily, the dude's a trouper, and agreed to A our Qs via e-mail. American Idol George Huff was...

Hugh Laurie, House

American IdolGeorge Huff was in the house, but these off-key performances probably removed the smile from his face for the first time ever. I did actually enjoy Taylor and was freaked out to be in agreement with Paula Abdul — Taylor is really great when he just stands there and sings. Mandisa wasn't at her best, but vocally she was still miles above the others. Yes, Simon Cowell, we know the "song isn't for you." If it were, it would be called "Damn You," not "Praise You." Paris definitely had the "attitude" part of "Work It Out" down, and she managed a decent vocal while doing the patented Beyoncé booty dance. Bucky was OK — though the band drowned him out a bit, he picked a good song read more

I've read some columns where ...

Question: I've read some columns where you helped people find out what songs are from TV commercials and I have two requests for you. The first one: On the old Lee Dungarees commercial, was that Johnny Cash singing the song? The second one is, what band sang the song for that Mercedes C coupe commercial? The only lyrics I know are about a guy singing about driving in his car and I really like the song. Thanks!

Answer: I exist to serve, Salom. Now, to answer your second question first because I'm a contrary kind of guy, the Mercedes song you seek is Geggy Tah's "Whoever You Are" and it's from their 1996 album Sacred Cow. (Before you ask, the name comes from how founding members' Greg Kurstin and Tommy Jordan's little sisters mispronounced their respective names.)

As far as the Lee Dungarees ads go, that was Junior Brown singing a tune produced by the famed T-Bone Burnett. (I can cert read more

Reba ''Cashes'' In

Since Nashville legend Reba McEntire had already won just about every prize in existence, CMT's Flame-Worthy VMAs had to go and invent a new one for her: the Johnny Cash Visionary Award, which she'll receive during Wednesday night's live ceremony (beginning at 8 pm/ET). "It's an honor to be placed in any category with Johnny," the modest star of WB's Reba tells TV Guide Online. However, she won't be saluting the original man in black by donning his trademark funereal attire. "I normally wear black, but I have chosen something different for this show." We shouldn't be surprised. Change, it seems, is the one constant in McEntire's life at the moment. For starters, she's about to hit the road for the first time in three years. "I needed that break after touring for 25 years straight," she says. "Now I'm energized by the music again." So much so that, while the Britneys of the world have come to rely on smoke and mirrors to make their concerts mem read more
