Fergie Duets with a Legend at Grammy Awards

Fergie by Cliff Lipson/CBS

The list of 2008 Grammy Awards performers and presenters is getting longer by the day as the Feb. 10 event draws closer. Piling up in a star-studded harmony of names, the latest performances announced include the pairing of Fergie, who's nominated for Best Female Pop Vocalist Performance, with soul crooner John Legend. In a special segment, Josh Groban will be singing along with pop opera (popera, if you will) singer Andrea Bocelli, in their first joint performance ever. New presenters have also been announced, and include teen phenoms Chris Brown and Miley Cyrus, along with fresh adds Solange Knowles, George Lopez, Lyle Lovett and Ludacris. With all these additions to an already robust roster, the show should be seriously g-l-a-m-o-r-o-u-s, which attendees should be able to both embody and spell. — Anna DimondRelated: • Michael Jackson to Show His Face at the Grammys?• Winehouse Set to Go, Go, Go to the Grammys• Party Central: Wolfgang Puck Cooks Up a Grammy Ce... read more

At the 2007 Emmys: Part 1

(Not-so-) fresh off the plane, me with the famous "Hollywood" sign in the distance.

Friday, Sept. 14, 8:21 am/ETAs you may have surmised by Ben Katner's byline on Friday's Today's News blog, I am en route to the Emmys in the Los Angeles of the California. Seat 23F, two nice nonsmelly ladies sitting next to me, waiting for the plane to pull away from the gate. Window seat. No dents in the wing — always a good sign in my book. The flight attendant is giving that spiel about, "If you are not headed to Los Angeles...," where I always expect (but never get) some poor sap rising and exclaiming, "Holy crap! Wait!"Ausiello is also in the air, but on a different plane. Flew out of LaGuardia (versus Newark), Mr. City Mouse did. Hey, fewer people climbing over me to get his autograph, right? If you haven't checked it out yet, you should really swing by TVGuide.com's Emmy Watch site. A lot of hard work by a lot of fantastic people went into it. Right now, you can check out (the original Matt) Matt Roush's predictions as well as see who the TVGuide.com readers think will w... read more

Casting Quickies: 24, 30 Rock and More!

Jamison Jones, who bosses around Peter Parker at the Bugle had a role in the 2003 crime drama Hollywood Homicide, has been cast on 24 in the recurring role of the head of President Wayne Palmer's Secret Service detail. Interestingly (I suppose), Jones played a deputy in a pair of 24's Season 2 episodes.... Peter Hermann is a fabulously coiffed MSNBC reporter whom Tina Fey's Liz falls for on the Jan. 18 episode of 30 Rock.... John Legend guests as himself on the Jan. 19 Las Vegas. read more

Music Video Musings from the Treadmill

Buttonz? Yodeling? Paul Wall? If I am at all current on the music kids are listening to these days — and my niece Phoenix will be the first to say I am not — it's only because my weekend routine finds me watching VH1 videos while doing cardio (and reading the latest periodicals, because I'm such the multi-tasker) at the local health club. Herewith are my thoughts on some of today's heavily-played "tracks," in no particular order other than how they pop into my mind:"About Us," Brooke Hogan (with the aforementioned Paul Wall)So, this is Hulk's daughter, eh? I read something somewhere about how she whipped herself into shape for this, partly via mad amounts of jump-roping, hence (I can only assume) the activity's inclusion in the vid. Mr. Wall's orthodontic issues aside, it's a catchy tune, though I must opine that Brooke and her posse get served in the video's dance-off at the end. I mean, did you see that one chick's crazy leg moves? It's like she has no femur."My Love," J... read more

Tony Bennett's Instant Classic

Consider this an unqualified rave. NBC is offering a deluxe sweeps and holiday treat in Tuesday’s prime-time special Tony Bennett: An American Classic (8/7c), which is as lustrously filmed as it is impeccably sung. For those of us who’ve been waiting for Oscar-nominated director Rob Marshall (Chicago) to tackle a new musical project, here it is. Marshall has lovingly conceived and masterfully executed a shimmering, swinging hour of razzle-dazzle showmanship that redefines what a variety special can be.I’m tempted to say they don’t make ’em like this anymore, but the truth is, even back when they did, they didn’t make ’em this good very often. (What this special reminded me of most, especially in the elaborate and evocative production numbers, was Bob Fosse’s landmark Liza With a Z special that Showtime so magnificently resurrected and restored earlier this year.)This is the rare music special that looks as good as it sounds. And it sounds spec... read more

48th Annual Grammy Awards After...

Kelly Clarkson

48th Annual Grammy AwardsAfter proudly watching my pals Kimberly Caldwell and Rosanna Tavarez on TV Guide Channel's Countdown to the Grammys, followed, of course, by Joan and Melissa Rivers on our Grammy red-carpet show, I made sure my roommate's VCR was taping Idol and my own VCR was set for Lost. All systems go! Time for the Grammys.8:00 pm The animated group Gorillaz open with their hit "Feel Good Inc.," and since I love the song, guess what? It makes me feel good. But I totally picture my mother in Chicago being very confused.8:03 The goddess Madonna enters and I'm loving every minute of it. Can I please look that fabulous when I'm 47? After a brief lip-synched intro, she sings the rest of "Hung Up" live, and her hair looks like Lydia Cornell circa Too Close for Comfort.8:13 Kelly Clarkson s read more

SUPER BOWL XL: EVERYTHING ELSE...

SUPER BOWL XL: EVERYTHING ELSEWell folks, I'm here to cover everything besides the football. The commercials, the entertainment, still more commercials — just think of me as a food critic who's more concerned with the side dishes than the main course. (Mmm, mashed potatoes.) And away we go. Preshow and HalftimeStevie Wonder and Friends — the friends including John Legend, Joss Stone (so sexy with the bare feet!), India.Arie and a whole mess of dancers — treat us to a head-bopping medley of classics, from "Superstition" to "Dancin' in the Streets." Wow, it's nice to see a Motown tribute done by artists with a vested interest in the genre — as opposed to the annual soulless, badly choreographed version we get on American Idol. The national anthem proves a little tough for me to get through, not because Aaron Neville read more
