Just three days before its September 22 premiere, ABC's new Charlie's Angels finally settled on an actor to replace Robert Wagner as the voice of detective agency owner Charles Townsend — former Alias star Victor Garber. "They were in a panic. I think my agent was negotiating with someone in the Emmys audience," says Garber, who has the same gentlemanly grace as the late John Forsythe, Charlie on the original series and in two feature films. Dynasty creators Richard and Esther Shapiro are putting the finishing touches on a film script that would be a prequel to their 1980s oil drama, focusing on the 1960s love story between twentysomething Blake Carrington (John Forsythe) and teen Alexis Morrell (Joan Collins).
"It seems to be the right time, with Sex and the City and some of the other TV shows having jumped to the big screen," says Richard, adding that "everyone has always wanted to know the beginnings of Blake and Alexis, who was in love with him throughout the series."

Film critic Roger Ebert told Chicago Sun-Times readers on Thursday that after being "completely out of it" for the two months following surgeries to repair bleeding from a cancerous growth, he is teaching his atrophied muscles to walk again, and expects to be back at work full-time in time to cover the next Academy Awards. Until then, Ebert's first film review since his incapacitation is online today, for Helen Mirren's The Queen....
