John Edwards "Ashamed" of Affair with Filmmaker

John Edwards by Jemal Countess/WireImage.com

Former presidential candidate John Edwards on Friday admitted to having had an extramarital affair in 2006 with a novice filmmaker.Edwards previously lied about the matter during his presidential campaign, denying a tabloid's report on it in October and subsequent allegations. But in an interview with ABC News' Bob Woodruff (broadcast on Friday night), Edwards went public about having had sexual relations with Rielle Hunter, but denied that he is the father of her young daughter. Like a lot of people, the two met at a bar in New York. Unlike a lot of people, his political action committee later paid her $114,000 to produce documentary videos for his campaign website. "In 2006, I made a serious error in judgment and conducted myself in a way that was disloyal to my family and to my core beliefs," he said in a statement. "I recognized my mistake and I told my wife that I had a liaison with another woman, and I asked for her forgiveness." Will Edwards get your forgiveness? — Anna ... read more

Cheers: Colbert in '08!

The Colbert Report courtesy Comedy Central

Cheers to The Colbert Report for capping off an exuberant Pennsylvania-primary week in Philadelphia with appearances by Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards. Clinton fixed the telecast's technical problems, Obama put distractions "on notice," and Edwards advocated "universal haircare" during "The Edwords." Still, my favorite moment of the week was when Colbert asked if he could lick the Liberty Bell because he wanted to "tongue the crack of Liberty." He may not have made it onto the presidential ballot, but Colbert has made himself a real election-year player. • For more Cheers & Jeers, check out the new vodcast.• Share your own raves and rants about other shows on the Reader Cheers & Jeers discussion board.• We may feature your Cheer or Jeer on TVGuide.com or in TV Guide magazine! read more

Presidential Contenders Debate Gay Issues on Logo

Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John Edwards and Christopher Dodd have all agreed to participate in an August 9 Democratic presidential debate on gay issues, to be hosted by the Logo cable network, Variety reports. Questions will be served up by a panel that includes Melissa Etheridge and Joe Solmonese, prez of the Human Rights Campaign (a cosponsor of the face-off). It is said that gays account for four percent of the voting population.Though invites were tendered, no similar forum will be held for the Republican candidates, as Mitt Romney's peeps said no and the Rudy Giuliani and John McCain camps never even RSVP'd — not that there's anything wrong with that. read more

Citing "Right-wing" Bias, Edwards Snubs Fox News

For a second time, presidential hopeful Sen. John Edwards has elected not to participate in a debate — this one slated for September — being hosted by Fox News Channel. "We believe there's just no reason for Democrats to give Fox a platform to advance the right-wing agenda while pretending they're objective," his deputy campaign manager tells Variety. In response/retaliation, a Fox News rep says, "Sen. Edwards has appeared on FNC more than 30 times, most recently in January. When exactly did he start having problems with us? When he was polling below 15 percent?" Oh, fair-and-balanced snap! read more
