The Rebs hear of this and send a spy, Merrill, to pose as a Yankee and steal the gold that the Indians have promised to the Northerners.

Deputy Marshal Curt Darrow (John Bromfield) is tasked with investigating the death of Sylvia Melbourne (Coleen Gray), the influential owner of a gambling house in the small frontier town of Fairweather. Sylvia's ex-lover tops the list of suspects, although plenty of the locals had reason to want her out of the picture. In need of quick cash for an operation for his son, used car dealer Nick Dunn (John Bromfield) reluctantly gets involved with a stolen car ring. Things go well until a detective (Dabbs Greer) gets wise, and when he turns up dead, Dunn is framed for the deed. Accused of murder and on the wrong side of the mob, Dunn runs for his life, leading to a final duel aboard a roller coaster with the stolen car ringleader.
