  • Met Paul Newman while both were in the 1953 Broadway production of William Inge's Pultizer-winning drama Picnic (Woodward was an understudy). Has appeared with Newman in 10 films (beginning with 1958's The Long Hot Summer) and a TV miniseries as well as four films that Newman directed (including 1968's Rachel, Rachel, for which she received an Oscar nomination).
  • Was the first performer honored with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame (1960).
  • Took the starring role in 1963's The Stripper, which was intended for Marilyn Monroe, after Monroe died.
