Trainers Not Pumped About Biggest Loser Twist

Are Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels raving about the decision to let viewers vote this week on who The Biggest Loser's third finalist should be? Fat chance. Michaels, for one, is "disappointed' with the change in format. "Biggest Loser is not a popularity contest. It's so much more than that," she said in a Friday conference call. "I don't get it, personally."Like Michaels, Harper fears that fans don't have enough information to adequately weigh in on so pivotal a decision, since fans have not seen firsthand as much of each player's progress as they have. "It's really a tricky thing," says Harper. "[The viewers] get all they've seen on the show, but it's still much more than that."To that end, exec producer Mark Koops says this week's episode will recap each player's journey and afford each a chance to appeal to the audience. "It's incredibly powerful," he says. "I personally think it's going to be well received." What's your take? Is this an instance where reality viewers should be... read more

Biggest Loser 2's Big Gender War

The Battle of the Bulge will become a Battle of the Sexes on The Biggest Loser 2.

When NBC's hit weight-loss competition returns on August 9, chubby contestants will be divided into two seven-member teams with fitness guru Bob Harper training the women and Jillian Michaels working with the men.

The male-vs.-female gimmick fit The Apprentice, but on this reality show, it's a twist that some fear will give the guys an unfair advantage. "There's this myth out there that men lose weight faster and better than women," says executive producer Dave Broome. "We're going to test that myth."

Actually, it's not a myth. It's a fact. Thanks to years of research, weight-loss experts know that most male bodies burn more calories than female bodies because men have more lean muscle mass. "Lean muscle tissue is the driving force for metabolism," explains Dr. James M. Rippe, author of Weight Watchers Weight Loss That Lasts. "So me read more

Downer Dave Exits Biggest Loser

The Biggest Loser's Red Team used Dave Fioravanti's construction expertise to build the biggest pile of food and win an electronics prize package. Last week, however, they decided he was tearing down their morale. Due to his bad ankle, the 39-year-old Boston real-estate developer opted out of a hiking excursion, which Ryan, Lisa and Kelly viewed as a sign of weakness. Here, Fioravanti tells TV Guide Online how he really feels about his teammates, his drastic weight loss, and how he's keeping the pounds off. TV Guide Online: Why did you butt heads with Ryan so much? Dave Fioravanti: He had lied in situations and so had I, and for him to get on a holier-than-thou podium and call me out for a being a liar was kind of a contradiction. It was the pot-calling-the-kettle-black scenario. I have a problem with that. TVGO: So are you mad at him or at the girls for voting you off? Dave: When you put people in a house read more

Gay Loser Fires Back!

The Red Team botched this week's weight-loss challenge on The Biggest Loser (Tuesdays, 8 pm/ET on NBC) and they were bitter. Thus, Matt Kamont was declared excess baggage and sent packing. While the spirited, openly gay 25-year-old seemed like the life of the party, his teammates claimed he was self-centered and working on their nerves. Here, the Pennsylvania boy tells TV Guide Online his side of the story — especially what he thinks of his teammates' nasty comments. TV Guide Online: First off, I loved the Elton John-inspired look donned for the oversize pop-star competition.Matt Kamont: It wasn't supposed to be Elton John. I threw together an outfit and then Caroline Rhea said, "You look like Elton John reincarnated." They actually had to stop production for 20 minutes because she was laughing so hard. TVGO: You seemed fun, but your team said you're annoying. What's up with that? Matt: I don't know. I read more

Biggest Loser's Lizzeth Lost

The voting process on NBC's The Biggest Loser (Tuesdays at 8/pm ET) has quickly gone from survival of the fittest to survival of the fattest. Both in the series opener and last week's episode, the teams eliminated their lightest members — and kept larger-sized contestants for their potential to lose more weight. Never mind credit for those who tried hardest. That strategy spelled doom for Red Team's spunky Lizzeth Davalos, 24. Before the big weigh-in, she woke up at the crack of dawn to go jogging, in a failed attempt to shed extra pounds. Here, the California girl tells TV Guide Online about her weighty dilemma. TV Guide Online: Have you stuck with the diet? Lizzeth Davalos: I've managed to keep up. I'm losing weight and meeting my fitness goals. TVGO: You set out to inspire your family. Did you ultimately do that?Lizzeth: Yes, I am helping family members and friends, so I definitely achieved that. They were just b read more
