  • Episode Recap: “The British Invasion” | Dexter | 12/17/2007
If it weren’t for the last four minutes of tonight’s final Dexter, I might have sworn off the series forever. How could he not kill Lila? The screen went black; I was flabbergasted. That false ending gave me a heart attack. But alas, our dear writers once again rose to the occasion giving us the kill we had been waiting for nearly all season. (And what a way to go.) First of all, who would open a door to a cabin in the middle of nowhere with someone inside shouting, “Let me out!”? Thank goodness Lila’s as crazy as she is, nay, was. Poor James. I understand why he had to go the way he had to go, but I am going to miss the big lug. He wasn’t such a bad guy. However, “I’m his soul mate,” were probably not the comforting words Doakes wanted to hear come of his potential rescuer’s mouth. He should have known it was curtains for him at that point. Lila was certainly in her element when Doakes told her that her beloved Dexter was the... read more
  • Episode Recap: “Left Turn Ahead” | Dexter | 12/10/2007
First of all, 500 points to all the fish-head aficionados among you! And 50 extra points to anyone who sang the song out loud when you read the words. Secondly, thanks to all of you eagle-eyed readers who caught my error when I inadvertently wrote that Dexter returned to the cabin to kill Doakes — obviously more wishful thinking on my part. I honestly don’t know what Dex will do with Doakes, but I will try to be more vigilant in my serial facts. With lines like "I’m the helpful handyman, how evil can I possibly be?" this was one of the funniest Dexters yet. Other good lines:"I always thought hardening arteries squeezed the life out of my father, but it was me.""That’s fine. Tie me up, put me in the trunk. Let's go.""I’ve got a coworker in a cage; things aren’t going so well.""I really enjoyed our conversations, James. I lie to everyone I know, except my victims right before I kill them. Hard to establish much of a rapport there. Sorry about the... read more
  • Episode Recap: “There’s Something about Harry” | Dexter | 12/3/2007
Not the thrill-a-minute-ride that we’re used to, but not half bad. Y’all were right, this was the third of three Dexter episodes left. Sorry, my bad. I guess I was just a little over zealous for the season finale, which, if the little teasers were any indication looks ridiculously good.Let’s start with some tasty lines: “It’s okay to take a life, so long as the city pays you for it.”“What shall I do with my hostage?”“Of course, I have a conscience; I left you a place to s**t, didn’t I?“You can’t play on my feelings. I don’t have any.”Lundy offhandedly told Debra he would be hitting the high road after the case. It stunned poor Debra. She was really hurt, but I was happy to see them talk it out. She was so honest and sincere when she told him her feelings about it. Lundy “thought the novelty of my AARP discount would wear off and you’d get bored of me.” Debra told him, “That’s the... read more
  • Episode Recap: "Resistance Is Futile" | Dexter | 11/26/2007
The first rule of Serial Killer Club? Don’t get caught. Everyone repeat. In yet another fabulously put-together Dexter, our hero found himself dreaming dead-on dreams, "Can’t leave this s--t lying around, bro," while sleeping in a lawn chair at his ex’s. The show had everything: Keith Carradine’s backside! Lundy shook down LaGuerta! The trophy slides were found — in Doakes' car! Dexter became the FFT!Heart to hearts everywhere: Dex and Rita (x2)Deb and Dex LaGuerta and DoakesLila and DexterLundy and DebraDexter and the FBI agents in the backseat of the carDexter and the FBI lab techsAngel and DexterLaGuerta and DebraDoakes and DexterSee, the list keeps growing….Michael C. Hall’s expressions in between dialogue were award worthy. Not much has been said here about this versatile actor, but last season I did mention his hotness. It's still intact, as is his talent. "All that self-reflection, it’s unhealthy." But the killing makes him sexier than... read more
  • Episode Recap: “Morning Comes” | Dexter | 11/19/2007
This is the eighth episode of the phenomenally brutal and fantastic Dexter. We are a mere four weeks away from the demise of the second season and the beginning of a long wait until the third. The thought is paralyzing. I take my TV watching very seriously! And this episode was a shining example of why this show is so good and entertaining and why the next four weeks will be worth staying tuned. If you thought Dexter was finding himself through his “recovery” program with Lila and Narcotics Anonymous, think again. Dexter came into himself through his life-long necessity to kill (one of) his mother’s killers. When Jimenez showed up, Dex knew what he had to do. The prep was the same as all his other traps, but the kill, so much more apropos. When he leaned over I was hoping he would pull out a chain saw and my wish was granted. Another moment of perfection. But the real question was why he had showed up when and where he did. The little slip of paper that Dex found in... read more
