Jeers: Top Model Far from Super

Tyra Banks by Eric Liebowitz/The CW

Jeers to America's Next Top Model for desperately needing a makeover. The twist for the 10th(!) cycle of Tyra Banks' CW reality show is... it's moving back to New York City. Sorry, that's not enough. Especially when it feels like we've seen all these wannabes before — inner-city tough girl Marvita ("Bitch, if you touch me, you gonna die"), filterless freak Amis ("You guys want to see my pubic hair?"), plus-size diva Whitney ("I am me, and if you don't like it, you can go suck an egg!"). It's time for an all-star or a celebrity edition or a plus-size-only throwdown to freshen the formula. This season's biggest surprise is fey Jay Manuel's emergence as an unlikely sex symbol: Stacy-Ann even gave him a lapdance. Sorry, Tyra, but it's back to the drawing board — and you better work!• Read and react to Bruce's opinions on Nip/Tuck's season finale, My Dad Is Better than Your Dad and more!• Share your own raves and rants about other shows on the Reader Cheers & Jeer... read more

A Big Twist on Top Model

Ambreal just barely kept her spot before a shocking twist occurred in last night's episode. Ambreal by Mike Rosenthal/Pottle Productions Inc/the CW

Episode Recap: "The Girl Who Gets a Mango"At the start of this week’s ANTM, it seemed as though we’d waving bye-bye to Ebony. She's been rubbing the judges the wrong way nearly every week so far, so it wouldn’t have been the biggest shocker to see her go. As Heather discussed her problem with always giving the camera a profile shot, a surprise guest came to the door. The girls were ecstatic to find it was Tyson Beckford, and he was there to teach the group how to be good spokespersons. They were each asked to grab an item in the house and try to sell it. Most of them seemed to go with the idea that sex sells, and tried to sound as seductive as possible. Little did they know that sex would definitely not sell in the challenge that awaited them. When the girls arrived at the location of this week’s challenge, they learned their task would be to come up with a 30-second PSA for the Keep a Child Alive charity. Despite stumbling on their lines and even the name of th... read more

The Models Get Gothic

At least she'll always have a career as a Liza impersonator to fall back on. Janet by Michael Yarish/The CW

Episode Recap: "The Girl Who's Afraid of Heights"ANTM finally kicked things into high gear this week when the made-over models began to figure out how to manage their new looks. After Victoria was sent packing last week, there's nobody left in the house who hasn't "been dreaming of this opportunity her entire life." As the numbers are starting to dwindle, the girls were forced to step it up a notch to prove their worth in this competition. Based on the popular opinion of this and other ANTM blogs, Janet was destined to be the next one sent home because the episode started out with her talking about her motherly role in the house. It looks like Heather is starting to feel right at home now that she's gotten into the trash-talking. She was brutally honest when discussing the flaws of her rival models, as well as her own. It wasn't long before the girls were off to some gymnastic training with Benny Ninja. The models learned to pose mid-air on a trampoline. After returning home for so... read more

The Top Models Get Extreme Makeovers

Smell ya later, Smarty-Pants. Victoria by Lionel Deluy/The CW

Episode Recap: "The Girl Who Goes Bald"— This week's recap by Ben KatnerWow, my first time subbing as TVGuide.com's America's Next Top Model recapper, and I get makeover week. Scary. Be gentle with me, people. The episode starts out with Victoria saying for the umpteenth time that it didn't occur to her until recently that modeling might be a kick in the smarty-pants, and I'm not buying it. I mean, if she'd ever even considered trying out for this show, she'd have known that the wannabes, not to mention Miss Tyra, have major hate-ons for girls who don't sob openly about how walking down a runway in clothes you'd never see anyone wear on the street has been their dream since they were in utero.Meanwhile, Saleisha — clearly forgetting that once you say you won't you most certainly will — announces that she's not ever going to be in the bottom two. But in her favor, she does sob openly about her aspiration to pose for pretty pictures for the rest of her life. More on that... read more

Dueling Divas and a Photo Shoot on the Rocks

Kimberly failed to rock the judges' worlds. Kimberly by Michael Yarish/The CW

Episode Recap: "The Girls Go Rock Climbing"Upon reviewing the comments on last week's ANTM blog, it seems we were all in agreement that the judges made the right choice in sending Mila home first. Most people also confirmed my suspicion that Bianca is this season's resident witch with a capital B. This week, Bianca continued on her mean streak and Miss J taught the models how to strut. The episode started out with the girls critiquing each other's walks while Saleisha gave Heather a makeover and a big boost of confidence. Some of the other girls helped out in a nice attempt to make Heather feel more like part of the gang. Before the girls could feel too at ease, however, the postman delivered Tyra Mail and the first mission was underway. The models met up with Miss J at the "Fashion Madhouse" where he showed them how to work the catwalk while modeling some unconventional attire. While most of the girls kept quiet and took in Miss J's advice, Bianca seized the opportunity to size up... read more

Tyra's Models Move In and the Claws Come Out

Mila, we hardly knew ye! The pretty blonde was this season's first casualty. Mila by Mike Rosenthal/The CW

Episode Recap: "The Models Go Green" Welcome to the launch of the new season of America’s Next Top Model! Although Cycle 9 officially kicked off last week, the competition doesn’t really begin until the girls start living under one roof. This week’s episode introduced the girls to the "green" house and eco-friendly camper they’ll be spending much of their time in throughout the season. Upon arriving at their new digs, the models were in awe. There was a built-in catwalk that allowed the competitors to watch themselves strut — pretty damn cool — and the whole outdoorsy theme is definitely a nice touch. Before getting too comfortable in their new pad, the girls were given their first photo assignment: demonstrate the dangers of smoking. As the shoot got underway, we started to see which models have natural talent and which ones will need major guidance from Jay Manuel. The girls were each photographed in two ways — first as the beautiful women they ... read more

America's Next Top Model The...

America's Next Top Model The "Cycle 6" contestants have been doing their homework: They came prepared with a walk and a sob story, and burst into the audition room screaming with fake enthusiasm. (Calling Jay Manuel your boyfriend? That's taking it a little far.) Right off the bat, you knew racist, uber-Republican, "my life is perfect" Dani was going to grab camera time and start some fights. It's a good thing she didn't really photograph well, or she'd have some death threats waiting for her back home. You want to talk about perfect lives? Sara just graduated from Georgetown and was minding her own business in the mall when she caught the eye of an ANTM scout. Of the sob stories, Nnenna is quite a contender, even if you nev read more

Sad Day for Depressed Top Model

Coryn Woitel

Ya gotta feel for America's Next Top Model reject Coryn Woitel. On tomorrow's The Tyra Banks Show, the 19-year-old retail clerk has to shoot down 1) Internet rumors that she's really a he; 2) talk that before being eliminated, she clashed constantly with the reality romp's resident boozehound; and, to add insult to injury, 3) the judges' observation that she seemed sad. Well, duh! Who the heck wouldn't be?! Hoping to raise the Minneapolis native's spirits — and get her to dish the dirt on her rival — TVGuide.com tracked her down in anticipation of this week's episode (airing Wednesday at 8 pm/ET on UPN). TVGuide.com: I was stunned that after taking such a gorgeous photo, you were given the boot.Coryn Woitel: I wasn't really surprised. I felt as if it was my time to go. TVGuide.com: You've got to be kidding.Coryn: No. I lo read more
