Mother Boss: "It's Not Going to Be Happily Ever After" for Barney and Robin

How I Met Your Mother

Now that Barney and Robin are out of the bag, it's time for the Emmy-nominated How I Met Your Mother (premieres Monday, 8/7c, CBS) to have even more fun this season. "We've kicked the door open on them together — I guess you can say together — and the floodgates of hilarious stories have opened up because there's nothing funnier than two people who are just terrible at being in relationships trying to be in a relationship," creator Carter Bays tells TVGuide.com. Of course, Barney and Robin aren't the only ones with plot turns as Ted starts a teaching gig at Columbia University, where he will meet his future wife. Bays tells us what's in store for everyone and why it would be an "outrage" if Neil Patrick Harris doesn't win an Emmy on Sunday.

Mother Cast Celebrates New Shows, and St. Pat's Day

Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders and Alyson Hannigan by Alexandra Wyman/WireImage.com

The cast of How I Met Your Mother put the "work hard, play hard" philosophy into action Thursday night as they celebrated the premiere of their spring season and St. Patrick's Day at the Palihouse Hotel in West Hollywood. Stars Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan, Cobie Smulders and Bob Saget wrapped up a milestone week of filming with pop diva Britney Spears and turned out in their red carpet finery ready to par-tay. Jameson Irish Whiskey cocktails flowed, Irish-themed hors d'oeuvres (including mini corned-beef-and-cabbage tarts, whiskey wings, and mini shepherd's pies) were passed around, and Segel dished about Brit-Brit's acting chops. "She has really good comedic timing," he said. "Her improvs were really good. She was into it and very funny." Segel also discussed his moonlighting as a big-time Hollywood writer when he's not working on HIMYM. "I'm writing the script to the next Muppet movie," he said. "The fact that I have been sitting in front of my computer ... read more

Mother Star and Apatow Announce Their Engagement

Judd Apatow by Mathew Imaging/WireImage.com and Jason Segel by Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage.com

Getting Knocked Up was clearly not enough for Judd Apatow and How I Met Your Mother's Jason Segel. The pair's now teaming up for yet another comedy: Five-Year Engagement, which follows the relationship between Segel's character and his fiancée for... yes, five years. According to Variety, the flick promises to be a couples' comedy, with a raw humor that Apatow fans can likely anticipate already. Writer-director Nick Stoller explains, "It's definitely an extension of our desire to explore the depth of human misery."But before the Engagement we'll see another Stoller-Segel collabo, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which also stars Kristen Bell. Stoller describes Engagement by comparison, saying, "If Sarah Marshall and Jason's character had stayed together, this might be the sequel." — Anna Dimond read more

A Most Engaging Story

So we're all on the New York street on the CBS Radford lot in Studio City shooting a How I Met Your Mother promo that's a parody of CSI, which they tell me is a popular show. We're all exhausted and not quite sure what we're doing. My sense is that on an hourlong procedural show, the hours are much worse but your face never has to change its expression. So that's a big up. Changing facial expressions is exhausting and overrated. They're setting up a shot of a corpse's feet right now. We're all pretty exhausted — the night's supposed to go very late and we have an early call. We haven't been officially picked up for a third season yet, but we're all seeing it as a good sign that CBS is having us do this. I'm going to have each cast member say something... get a little guest-blogging going.Me: Hey, guys. Give me a quote for my TVGuide.com blog.[Everybody thinks]Neil Patrick Harris: "I'm in a constant state of squint. And I like it. I like it a lot. It feels right, you know?"Alyso... read more

How CBS' Mother Met with Sitcom Success

How I Met Your Mother

How I Met Your Mother: At its best, it's one of TV's tangiest, highest laugh-per-minute ratio comedies, populated by one of the brightest and most crackling casts out there. In its less-than-two years on our screens, it has taught us to "Suit up," fear the slap bet and never, ever call Lily a, um, "grinch." It gave TV back Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan, and treated us to the arrival of relative newbies Josh Radnor, Jason Segel and Cobie Smulders. To celebrate the CBS sitcom's funnily serious litany of accomplishments, TVGuide.com invited cocre read more

Veronica Mars' Kristen Bell Talks of Laughs and LoVe

Kristen Bell in Fifty Pills

On the CW's Veronica Mars (Tuesdays at 9 pm/ET), Kristen Bell plays a sassy crime fighter who revels in putting the bad guys behind bars (or at least getting a bit of payback). But in the newly released DVD for Fifty Pills, fans will get to see quite a different side of her as a somewhat proper love interest to a fella who has to sell Ecstasy in order to stay in college. TVGuide.com asked Bell about the indie flick as well as the rest of Veronica Mars' Season 3 — including her current take on Logan and Veronica's fate. TVGuide.com: Fifty Pills has sort of an American Pie kind of vibe.Kristen Bell: Yeah, it definitely has that feel to it. TVGuide.com: And you get to play the nice good girl.Bell: read more
