Jason Schwartzman has signed on to HBO's comedy pilot Bored to Death. He'll play an alcoholic thirtysomething down on his luck who, to add some spice to things, lives life through characters from his favorite Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett novels.THR.com says Schwartzman's charater takes out a newspaper ad pretending to be a detective. He takes on several cases — solving some and fouling up others.Production is scheduled to start in September. — J.R. Whalen
