Was working as a roofer when friend Kevin Smith asked him to appear in 1994's Clerks as the vocal part of the comic-duo of Jay and Silent Bob.
Reprised the role of Jay in Smith's Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Clerks II and the short-lived Clerks: The Animated Series.
Made a cameo, as Jay, in 2000's Scream 3.
Was an admitted drug addict for years until he accidentally set the couch where he was sleeping on fire and realized he needed help.
Appeared in Smith's 2008 flick Zack and Piri Make a Porno.
