Top 10 Power Rankings: Are the Girls in Trouble?

"The Long and Winding Road" led David Archuleta back to the No. 1 spot in TVGuide.com's American Idol Power Rankings this week, as the lad bounced back from his setback and reminded the audience of his pure pipes. Still in the running, though, is last week's chart-topper, David Cook, who is just five percentage points behind.Staying put in the No. 3 and 4 slots are Brooke White and Carly Smithson. The rest of the gals, meanwhile, are in a three-way tie for seventh place. Only Chikezie fared worse this week, returning to the cellar with less than one percent of your vote. The Top 10 Power Rankings31.3% David Archuleta26.3% David Cook12.7% Brooke White11.9% Carly Smithson8.1% Jason Castro 5.1% Michael Johns 1.2% Kristy Lee Cook 1.2% Ramiele Malubay 1.2% Syesha Mercado 0.9% ChikezieBiggest Riser: Kristy Lee, up three spotsBiggest Slider: Chikezie, from eighth to lastWhat is your take on the latest rankings? The Top 10 Revealed!

Hey guys Erin Fox here again First off I still have no news about Nina and her baby which means shes dealing with some seriously long labor I thought for sure shed have him last night but alas Baby Boy Hammerling-Smith is a stubborn little guy Send lots of positive thoughts her way Secondly I know all about Chikezie-gate 2008 I swear he was not left out intentionally it was just computer error as in my computer kept crashing and I had to keep re-entering my recap it was not a fun time at my house late last night Poor Chikezie was temporarily dissed but I made sure to add him back as soon as I couldNow I have to admit something I hate the elimination shows I never watch them I just cant stand the cheesy group numbers and bad product placement videos But lets hope they prove me wrong and Im thoroughly entertained We start with Ryan making a pretty huge announcement The four mentors this year include Dolly Parton Andrew Lloyd Webber Neil Diamo read more

Big news everyone Nina is at the hospital this very moment giving birth to Baby Boy Hammerling-Smith It seems fitting that shed have her baby on an American Idol night Im Erin Fox and Ill be filling in for the fabulous Nina until she returns from maternity leave I know how much you all love her and Ill try my best to do her proud The night starts with Ryan asking the judges about what they expect this week from the contestants Paula actually has a cohesive opinion without stumbling or using colors to describe how she feels Way to go girl Shes very sparkly tonight too Then Ryan points out that a fan has a sign that says Simon Is Sexy Like he needs any more encouragement to be full of himselfRyan transitions into a taped piece that explains to America how important the Beatles are to our musical history I really hope this is supposed to be geared toward 8-year-olds because its almost insultingly simple Its the freakin Beatles Youd have to live under read more

The Top 12 Perform

That was quite a night of ups and downs including some pretty incredible performances and a few disasters not to mention some unintentional comic relief courtesy of the judges The two biggest stories of the night were the seeming self-destruction of hitherto nearly perfect David Archuleta more on that in a bit and the heightened crabbiness of Simon who made disparaging comments not only about the singers but about several of the songs themselves and these were Beatles songs I mean come on Simon had a couple of especially cringe-inducing moments including when he said Whats the Irish girls name and Paula and Randy replied quickly Carly Carly Like a guy in the audience behind Simon I put my head in my hands after that comment Ryan who was unless Im mistaken sporting a faux-hawk talked up the new set which was you know big and impressive but not really all that He also had a couple of choice moments with Simon like when he was whisperi read more

Cheers: David Cook Turns Up the Heat on Idol

David Cook by Frank Micelotta / FOX

Cheers to David Cook for providing the first truly transcendent moment on American Idol this season. As I noted in last week's Cheers & Jeers vodcast, none of the new contestants had stood out for me yet (I'm not convinced David Archuleta understands the meaning of "Imagine"). But by taking Lionel Richie's '80s cheese-pop ballad "Hello" — remember the video with the blind sculptress? — and turning it into a raging rocker, Cook whipped up an act of genuine musical alchemy. Jason Castro's quavering take on "Hallelujah" was also effective, but fell short by comparison to any number of versions of that can't-miss song (Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright, k.d. lang). With Cook's stunning turn, we may have just said "Hello" to our next American Idol.• Read and react to Bruce's opinions on Hillary Clinton's Daily Show visit, FX's Dirt and more!• Share your own raves and rants about other shows on the Reader Cheers & Jeers discussion board.• We ma... read more

What a trip down memory lane the 80s were when I discovered popular music so to hear a lot of my old favorites again was quite a treat Not just for me either Im currently eight months pregnant thank you thank you and the little one was doing some fancy dance moves along with tonights songs too I really wasnt sure about Idols decision to have the semi-final rounds be themed but Ive actually come to enjoy the decades-spanning performances Its also interesting to see who picks what in each decadeAs for the judges tonight they were back to their old ways too Ryan said of the 80s that Many of us wore our most embarrassing outfits then Like for example Randys shirt which was both shimmery and multi-colored At least he didnt come out wearing a Madonnaish lace headband single glove and jelly bracelets like I used to do back in the day Paula was also in rare form tonight stuttering over her words rambling incoherently and dropping gems li read more

Ah the 70s Like the judges I love this era of music and I was glad no one was tempted to sing disco This is going to sound crazy but I think I actually agreed with Paula most of all the judges tonight She was dare I say it sane wise and insightful Simon meanwhile went on the record Tuesday afternoon even before last nights show to tout David Archuleta as the one to beat this season You can read the full news story in our Great American Idol blog Young Davids take on Imagine perhaps only cemented that opinion But more on that in a bitAll in all this was a more successful performance night than the boys had last week and there were a few standouts But there are still more than two of these fellas who should definitely get the ax before American Idol heads to the big stage and the eliminations get harder and harderAs for the performancesMichael Johns Go Your Own Way Im trying to figure out what it is about Michael I really enjo read more
