Exclusive: Anthony Geary on Luke, Fluke and How He Almost Quit General Hospital

Anthony Geary

Just when you think Anthony Geary couldn't possibly dazzle us more, he does! The seven-time Emmy winner, who plays General Hospital's Luke Spencer, is once again causing trophy buzz, this time for his kickass turn as Luke's evil lookalike, who has been tagged Fluke — for Fake Luke — by the fans. Now for the bad news: Geary, who recently underwent major surgery, will be off the show until the fall for an extended recovery and vacation, so it will be quite a while before Fluke's true identity is revealed. But not so fast! TV Guide Magazine grabbed Geary before he jetted off to rest up at his home in Amsterdam and had a candid chat about his health, his art and Fluke's pervy scenes with Kiki!

Daytime Emmy Awards: Michael Logan's Fearless Predictions

The Young and The Restless

Gee, remember when the Daytime Emmys were presented before thousands of deliriously happy fans at Radio City Freakin' Music Hall in primetime during May sweeps and drew massive Nielsen ratings? Now they're on the Internet. Yep, the 41st Annual Daytime Emmys Awards — hosted by Kathy Griffin — will live stream on daytimeemmys.net on Sunday, June 22 (8 p.m./ET, 7 p.m./CT, 5 p.m./PT). What should we expect? Only two things are guaranteed: Griffin, working without censors, will shock the crap out of us (can't wait!) and most of my fearless predictions in the drama categories will, as usual, be laughably wrong. So, dear soap stars, don't be offended if I didn't pick you. It means there's a damn good chance you'll win! Here we go... read more

General Hospital's Jane Elliot on Her (Shocking!) Daytime Emmy Nomination

Jane Elliot

The last time General Hospital's Jane Elliot (Tracy) won a Daytime Emmy was 1981 —the year Ronald Reagan moved into the White House. Isn't it about damn time she took home another? That said, Elliot's current nomination in the supporting actress category comes as quite a stunner, not because she isn't deserving, but because she has refused to submit herself for Emmy consideration for the past 20 years. What changed her mind? TV Guide Magazine gave Elliot a ring shortly after the noms were announced on Thursday morning to get the answer. But more important: Who's doing her roots for the awards now that Deidre Hall has a broken wrist? Tragedy!

General Hospital's Jane Elliot on Loving Luke, Working With Elvis and More

Jane Elliot

She is irreplaceable and irrepressible and rarely gives interviews, but when Jane Elliot does decide to talk she damn well delivers! On the occasion of General Hospital's 51st anniversary, TV Guide Magazine spoke with the Emmy-winning actress about her legacy as bitch supreme Tracy Quartermaine. Elliot also cut loose on a variety of other topics, from her most famous leading man (Elvis Presley!) to her close, but chemically dangerous, friendship with Days of Our Lives' Deidre Hall. You'll never guess what the two soap queens plan to do when they retire!

TV Guide Magazine: We know you hate compliments and this will probably annoy the crap out of you but we gotta ask: Do you have any idea how beloved you are by the GH fans? They're especially excited about your Emmy pre nom, since you've long been a hold-out when it comes to awards.
Elliot: I don't tweet or do any other social media so I don't know what's being said out there. I certainly appreciate what you're telling me and I'm grateful for it but, whenever anybody tells me something like that, it just slides right off me like scrambled eggs off Teflon. I just don't let my mind go there.

General Hospital's Kin Shriner Is Back. Will Scotty Be the New D.A.?

Kin Shriner

When we last saw General Hospital's Scotty Baldwin — the fan fave rascal played by Kin Shriner — he was abruptly ending his marriage to Laura (Genie Francis) because he suspected she was still hung up on her ex-hubby Luke (Anthony Geary). But Scotty didn't flee Port Chuck to lick his wounds. Instead he vowed to stay in town and reclaim his old gig as D.A. Now the election campaign is about to kick off — but who the hell would vote for a guy whose rap sheet includes robbery, blackmail, kidnapping, assault and illegal burial? Well, for one, Shriner would!

Exclusive: General Hospital's Anthony Geary On Life, Death and the Future of Luke and Laura

Anthony Geary

General Hospital's Luke Spencer is slowly dying from polonium poisoning so what better time to interview the guy who plays him, seven-time Emmy winner Anthony Geary? TV Guide Magazine corralled daytime's lion king to discuss his character's current bout with mortality and other dishy topics — from his issues with Luke and Laura to the GH head writer who wanted him fired!

TV Guide Magazine: What's the trick to making us believe Luke is at death's door when we know damn well they'd never get rid of you?
Geary: That's very kind but, in the soap business, everyone is expendable and you never take anything for granted. That said, I'm not sure the audience does buy this. When that ex-KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko was poisoned with polonium a few years back — they think by Putin — he was covered in gruesome sores. It's a hellish death. I really wanted to go there but they wouldn't let me. [Laughs] I do love to look bad.

Exclusive: Anthony Geary, Jane Elliot, Kin Shriner Dish the Golden Days of General Hospital

Kin Shriner, Jane Elliot and Anthony Geary

Drinking! Deceit! Debauchery! And some of it even happened on screen. General Hospital was one wild and crazy place in the late '70s and early '80s under the command of the brilliant yet oh-so-lethal exec producer Gloria Monty. In honor of the ABC soap's 50th anniversary, TV Guide Magazine gathered three survivors of the era — good friends Tony Geary (Luke), Jane Elliot (Tracy) and Kin Shriner (Scotty) — for a raucous lunch near the GH studio. Shriner shows up at the restaurant in a bright cherry-red shirt, the exact same color as Geary's pants. "How weird is that?" says Shriner. "If we put your pants with my shirt it would look kind of clownish." Says Geary with a laugh: "I hate to tell ya, but we're both halfway there now." Elliot, for reasons to be revealed later, is wearing a large smock. Geary orders pasta. Shriner and Elliot get the fish tacos, with Elliot noting, "Kin, who has way too much time on his hands, called me yesterday to discuss in detail the fish tacos he was going to have here today." Soon enough the memories are flying. Who quit the show in a tiff over $50? Who got arrested on the way to work? Who had a steady stream of sexmates coming in and out of the dressing room? It's all here and lots more, so get ready for the full Monty!
