Was an outstanding high-school quarterback in Texas.
Studied classical piano at the Juilliard School.
Got started in stand-up comedy in 1989 when a girlfriend prodded him to perform at an L.A. comedy club.
For his Oscar-winning performance as Ray Charles, he lost 30 pounds, attended Braille classes and wore a prosthetic device over his eyes during filming.
In 2005, became the first person to be nominated for three acting awards at the Golden Globes in the same year, for his performances in Ray, Collateral and Redemption.
Was only the fourth person to win an Oscar for acting and have a No. 1 record. (Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Barbra Streisand are the others.)
In 2007, Sirius Radio launched a channel with him called The Foxxhole, and he hosts a weekly talk show called The Jamie Foxx Show on it.
Made some disparaging remarks against Miley Cyrus on his radio show in 2009; soon after, he apologized to her when he appeared on The Tonight Show.
Hosted the 2009 BET Awards, which aired days after Michael Jackson's death, and paid tribute to Jackson by doing the dance routine from the Beat It video and participating in a group rendition of I'll Be There.
In 2010, he teamed up with the CDC to create video and radio PSAs for their "I Know" campaign, which aims to increase awareness about HIV prevention and testing.
