The first wave of summer TV's sci-fi/fantasy invasion is upon us, and while the new arrivals take themselves a bit more seriously than we're accustomed to — for whimsy, you'll have to wait for Syfy's Warehouse 13 and Eureka to return in July — this doesn't necessarily rule out a good time.
After starring in Ron Moore's space opera Battlestar Galactica, Tricia Helfer is reteaming with him for a fantasy cop drama, TV Guide has confirmed.
The actress is joining the cast of his NBC pilot, 17th Precinct. The Sony TV-produced drama centers on the cops in the town of Excelsior, where magic reigns. Helfer will play the necromancer Morgana, the precinct's coroner. Deadline first reported the news.
Battlestar Galactica alum Jamie Bamber will reunite with Ron Moore in NBC's 17th Precinct, according to TVLine.com.
Executive-produced by Moore, the series is a supernatural police drama set in the fictional town of Excelsior. Bamber will star opposite the recently cast Stockard Channing as...
The most radical departure in NBC's Law & Order: Los Angeles (Wednesday, 10/9c) isn't the new location, but the lack of a portentous "these are their stories" intro. It's not the only thing that has been lost in the transition.
The pilot episode (which includes a brief glimpse of Wanda de Jesus as the police lieutenant, replaced afterward by ...
Michael Trucco knows a thing or two about being "that guy" in a TV love triangle.
Castle's Stana Katic: Beckett's ready to tango with new love interest
Trucco's Samuel Anders came between romantic leads Kara "Starbuck" Thrace (Katee Sackhoff) and Lee "Apollo" Adama (Jamie Bamber) on Battlestar Galactica. Now on Castle, Trucco plays Detective Tom Demming, an increasingly powerful wedge between Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Detective Beckett (Stana Katic).
But Trucco tells TVGuide.com there's more to his role on Castle than creating another obstacle to a Castle-Beckett pairing. "It's an interesting plot device to enter in a third wheel — it always helps raise the stakes for all parties involved. But often, those characters can be one-dimensional," Trucco says. "What I like about Demming is he's actually a good guy. There's some sincerity in this character and I think he's genuine in his feelings for Beckett.
"He checks with Castle first," Trucco continues, recalling one of his character's first scenes...

In this week's Mitovich Mega Minute, I take some bits of Comic-Con news and add a scoopy little something "extra."
For example: It was announced this weekend that Dollhouse will set the stage for a reunion between Angel alumni Amy Acker and incoming guest star Alexis Denisof. But have you heard that a Battlestar Galactica meet-up is also in the cards, when Jamie Bamber shares scenes in the Season 2 premiere with Tahmoh Penikett? That's how this will work.
So, in this Mega Minute:
• As confirmed at Comic-Con, Chuck's kung fu will be glitchy at best. But do you know what his next mad new skill will be? I do.
• When Angel alum Charisma Carpenter guest-stars on Legend of the Seeker, what will be on her Mord'Sith's agenda beyond fighting? I've got the answer.
• Also, what secret message did Dominic Monaghan flash to fans at Lost's Comic-Con panel? And get my take on one of the big Smallville reveals.
Watch and discuss the new MMM after the jump.
PETA has released a promotional piece featuring Battlestar Galactica hottie Jamie Bamber — nekkid from the obliques up — to shed light on the cruelty of black-bear hunting.
The ad simply reads, "Bare Skin, Not Bearskin."
Bamber's print PSA is part of PETA's campaign to persuade Queen Elizabeth to end the use of Canadian black bear fur for headwear worn by Buckingham Palace guards. The Battlestar hunk is a native of London and films the space-based show in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.
Now doesn't this picture make you mad that Bamber's been stuck in a full-body flight suit for much of his four years on BSG? Oh, the injustice!
Begin your drooling, er, discussion after the jump.
