Who's going to die on the Grey's Anatomy eighth season finale?
Six doctors — Meredith, Derek, Cristina, Mark, Lexie and Arizona — crash-landed somewhere in the woods on their way to Boise. Though we'd like to think that April (Sarah Drew), who failed her boards, would kill herself and save us the torment of a more shocking loss — the promos seem to indicate that it's one of the Stranded Six who won't make it out alive.

It's the moment we've been waiting for: the Grey's Anatomy residents are taking their medical boards this Thursday, and we'll finally get to see how each of the docs handled it. By the looks of the sneak peek below, Jackson (Jesse Williams) is just as nerve-wracked as the rest of them. Why? Well, he did just sleep with his best friend, and then learn that his mentor and his mother hooked up. TVGuide.com turned to Williams to get the scoop on the medical boards, the future for April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson — and Jesus, apparently — and how Jackson will handle a possible Slexie reunion...

Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey
It's the question on the mind of every Grey's Anatomy fan: Who will be sticking around Seattle Grace next season?
With several of the actors' contracts up at the end of the season — and creator Shonda Rhimes putting the finishing touches on the finale script as we speak — fans are waiting with bated breath to find out which of their favorite doctors will be returning for Season 9. While there's no official word yet on who will be back, we decided to toss out a few ideas of our own as to how Meredith, Cristina and the rest of the gang could leave. Even though not everyone's contracts are up, we came up with a crazy-but-plausible scenario for everyone — and because some of our favorite couples could get split up, we've added a few scenarios in which one half stays and the other goes. Enjoy!

Sandra Oh, Ellen Pompeo
As Grey's Anatomy winds toward its Season 8 finale, the major question is not only which actors will return next season, but also which residents will actually pass the medical boards in order to become full-fledged doctors — and hopefully, continue walking the halls of Seattle Grace.
"You're going to see how each person deals with [the boards]," creator Shonda Rhimes tells TVGuide.com. "How some of them rise to the occasion, how some of them crack, and some of the problems they're going to be facing."
Anatomy of Shonda Rhimes, the busiest woman in Hollywood
For Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), the boards won't go as smoothly as she hopes when she faces a crisis during her exams...

Meredith is bright and shiny, Callie has kids with Owen, and Derek and Addison are still married.
These are just a few of the ways the world of Grey's Anatomy is turned upside down when Meredith imagines what life would be like if her mom had never gotten sick. In a special alternate-reality episode, airing Thursday at 9/8c on ABC, Ellis Grey (Kate Burton) was never stricken with Alzheimer's, and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) had a very different upbringing. Instead of dark and twisty, Meredith is happy and engaged... to Alex Karev (Justin Chambers)!
Bad news MerDer fans: Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Addison (Kate Walsh) are also still married. And she's pregnant!

Kim Raver
Little has happened at Seattle Grace since Grey's Anatomy's fall finale last month. That apparently includes Teddy (Kim Raver) still being in the dark that her husband, Henry, (Scott Foley) died on the operating table despite the best efforts of Teddy's protégée Cristina (Sandra Oh).
