Francis Ford Coppola received the Irving G. Thalberg award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science's over the weekend during an Oscar ceremony in Los Angeles.
"I've learned how to spend money, and Francis has learned how to make it," producer George Lucas said during his tribute to Coppola.

Scott Caan, who plays investigator Danny "Danno" Williams, that cocky, huggable bulldog you see strutting his stuff each week on Hawaii Five-0, is not so different from his character. Both have been struggling to adjust to a new island home (Danny's left New Jersey to be closer to his daughter, while Caan jets back to L.A. every chance he gets to visit with his girlfriend). Both live in the shadow of a larger-than-life presence (Danny's superior, former Navy SEAL Steve McGarrett, and Caan's real-life pops, Oscar nominee James Caan). And both are all about the work, with little patience for frivolity.

As buzzed about a month ago, NBC has signed Emmy winner Tom Selleck (Magnum, P.I.) to join the cast of NBC's Las Vegas this fall, playing "a charismatic, self-made billionaire who is surrounded by an air of mystery when he becomes the new owner of the Montecito Resort & Casino."In making the announcement, NBC also revealed that — as some form of baton-passing, I presume — James Caan will reprise his role of Ed Deline in the Season 5 premiere. It was announced earlier this year that Caan would be leaving Las Vegas after its fourth-season finale, but just when he thought he was out, they pulled him back in. (Little Pacino/Godfather/Sonny Corleone reference for ya there.)
