James Blunt Fast Facts:
  • Learned to play guitar as a teenager after studying piano and violin.
  • Studied aeronautical engineering and sociology at University of Bristol before joining the British Army in 1998. During his four years of service, he rose to the rank of captain.
  • Was stationed in Kosovo during 1999. The song "No Bravery" on his debut CD, Back to Bedlam, is about the horrors witnessed there.
  • Served as a guard to Queen Elizabeth II.
  • Producer Linda Perry (who has worked with artists such as Christina Aguilera and Pink) signed him to her label after seeing him perform at the 2003 South by Southwest music fest in Austin.
  • Stayed in Carrie Fisher's guest house while recording his debut CD in Los Angeles. She also gave the album its name, Back to Bedlam, and wrote the sleeve notes under the pseudonym of "the Landlady."
  • Was included in the 2007 Guinness Book of World Records for having sold the most albums in the UK in 2005.
