The Fosters has been renewed for a second season, ABC Family announced Friday.
"The Fosters has demonstrated its ability to build an audience, and the creative team's compelling storytelling assures us that there will be more growth in upcoming seasons," Kate Juergens, ABC Family's executive vice president of programming, said in a statement. "The show's dynamic cast and groundbreaking story lines resonate with our core viewers and leave them wanting more."

Executive-produced by Jennifer Lopez, the drama tells the story of Lena (Sherri Saum) and Stef (Teri Polo), a bi-racial lesbian couple that takes in Callie (Maia Mitchell), a troubled teen with an abusive past. The transition for Callie is anything but easy, especially as she tries to fit in with Stef's biological son Brandon (David Lambert) and the couple's adopted twins Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) and Jesus (Jake T. Austin).
