Was raised on his father's farm, and volunteered to assist a local veterinarian starting at the age of 11.
Majored in political science and business in college.
Got in trouble in college for keeping ducks in his dorm room. Also tried to smuggle a donkey onto campus.
Began hosting a television show in 1981 called Hanna's Ark.
Published his autobiography, Monkeys on the Interstate, in 1989.
Was named one of People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People in 1996.
Has been granted honorary doctorates from Muskingum College, Otterbein College and Capital University.
