Jan 26 - Thai students march to raise awareness of behalf of tigers as the WWF calls for for stronger action on tiger conservation in Thailand. A new report by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) says Indochinese tigers are on the brink of extinction.
Tigers are being killed illegally to satisfy increasing demand for their body parts, which are used in traditional Chinese medicine. Destruction of their forest homes has also fuelled the decline, said the report, released just ahead of the Chinese lunar Year of the Tiger. Asian countries are a hotspot for the illegal wildlife trade, which the international police organisation Interpol estimates may amount to more than 20 billion U.S. dollars a year. watch
