Irma la Douce -- Paris? the red-light district. A rookie police officer, Nestor Patou (Jack Lemmon), falls for a beautiful prostitute, Irma la Douce (Shirley MacLaine). Before long, Nestor discovers that the only way to keep Irma is to become her new pimp, and the only way to accomplish that is to knock the block off the present pimp. As a result, Nestor becomes #1 pimp on the block. It is not long, though, before he becomes insanely jealous of Irma's customers. Despairing, Nestor devises a way to keep Irma all for himself, yet allow her to continue in her profession. And when the plan backfires, there is only one person who can help him... but will she believe him? Lemmon's comic performance, under the direction of Billy Wilder, has been compared to some of the great visual comedy of the silent comedians.

Alex, a self-absorbed young painter, is having a bad day. He doesn't get the art show he's been expecting, his girlfriend kicks him out, and he finds himself living in a low rent Hollywood apartment with an ironclad lease. Rejected, dejected, and surrounded by an assortment of neighbors he'd rather avoid, his downward spiraling life takes a turn when Lori, a country girl from Colorado, fresh out of the Air Force, moves in across the hall. It soon becomes apparent to Alex, though, that as convenient as it is to date someone across the hall, it's even more inconvenient to have her still living there when you try to break up.

What do you call a cowboy with his brains kicked out? A bronc rider. Ben Jones and Howdy Lewis are bronc riders. Glenn Ford and Henry Fonda portray the pair who are cowboy enough to do just about any job, except for the one at hand. That job: Saddle a clever, ornery, blaze-faced roan named Old Fooler and make him as gentle as a milk-pen calf. Can't be done, and that gets the cowpokes to thinking. Maybe they can make a dollar or two by wagering that no one at the rodeo can stay atop him either.
