The doctor is in — and she looks just like Supergirl! Helen Slater is heading to CBS's The Young and the Restless as an OB/GYN named Dr. Chiverton. But which Genoa City gal is expecting a baby? The soap is keeping that quiet for now, since there are several possibilities beyond the obvious one, Lauren Fenmore (Tracey Bregman), who currently thinks she's pregnant.
ABC Family's The Lying Game may be based on the book of the same name, but the similarities pretty much end there.
"People who have loved the book will still get the tone in the series, but it takes on a life of its own," executive producer Charles Pratt, Jr. (Melrose Place) tells TVGuide.com. "Everybody you see on this show is somehow tied into the mystery, which is probably our biggest departure."
ABC Family has picked up the one-hour drama The Lying Game, the network announced Tuesday.

Helen Slater, Smallville
On the heels of Dean Cain's guest spot last month, another actor with ties to the Man of Steel mythos lands in Smallville (8 pm/ET, CW) tonight when 1984's big-screen Supergirl, Helen Slater, begins a two-episode arc as Clark's Kryptonian mom, Lara.
"You know how people love this kind of stuff," enthuses Slater, adding that we first meet a pregnant Lara in Superlore-tweaking flashbacks set on her doomed home planet. "After learning that Krypton is going to be destroyed, I go through a portal to Smallville to see where my baby will be raised... because [her husband] Jor-El has already been to Earth and picked the Kents to be Clark's family."
In a passing-of-the-torch touch, Supermom makes the trip with her niece Kara, better known now, of course, as Supergirl. And it's a go

Allow me to explain. A Warner Bros. rep confirms for TVGuide.com that Helen Slater, who played Supergirl in 1984's tepidly received Superman film franchise spin-off, will guest on Smallville this season as the aunt of Kara aka Supergirl (played by series newcomer Laura Vandervoort). Slater's small-screen alter ego, though, is not some adoptive "I found you in a crater in my cornfield" sort of Earthling aunt. No, she is none other than Lara-El, Clark's Kryptonian mama. (Perhaps in Smallville mythology she was "away" on a spa vacation to Venus when her home went kablooey?)Thus far, Slater is slated to appear in at least one episode, the sixth one of Smallville's upcoming season.
