Sons of Anarchy Postmortem: How Much of a "Savage" Has Jax Become?

Charlie Hunnam

[WARNING: The following story contains major spoilers from the Season 5 finale of Sons of Anarchy. Read at your own risk.]

"You can't sit in this chair without being a savage."

After a season-long examination of what kind of leader Jax Teller would become as president of the outlaw motorcycle club at the center of FX's Sons of Anarchy, Jax offers up the words above as his ultimate conclusion. And there's plenty of evidence to support his case.

Sons of Anarchy: What kind of leader will Jax become?

After successfully getting the club out of transporting drugs for the cartel and dealing major weapons for the Irish, Jax (Charlie Hunnam) still had one item on his agenda: killing his predecessor Clay (Ron Perlman). But because Jax's vice president Bobby (Mark Boone Jr.) cast the only vote against killing Clay as a club action, Jax had to get creative... read more

Weekend TV Review: Family Guy's 200th, Wedding Band, Sunday's Logjam

Family Guy

It's a good time to be Seth MacFarlane, with a hit movie (Ted) under his belt, a gig as Oscar host in his future, and a mini-empire on the Fox network, whose Sunday "Animation Domination" lineup is overrun with his shows, most notably and memorably Family Guy. Not many shows that got canceled early in its run (after several seasons of incredibly incompetent scheduling), only to be resurrected on the strength of DVD sales and a cult cable following, manage to live on to mark a 200th-episode milestone.

Sons of Anarchy Boss Weighs In on Brutal, Shocking Death

Sons of Anarchy

[WARNING: The following story contains spoilers from Tuesday's episode of Sons of Anarchy.]

Tuesday's episode of Sons of Anarchy was, in a word, brutal.

Fall TV: Get scoop on your favorite returning shows

Not only did the episode feature a graphically violent death-by-beating, but it also killed off one of the show's most beloved characters. The newly incarcerated Jax (Charlie Hunnam) was told by Damon Pope (Harold Perrineau) that in order to end the beef between their respective gangs, Jax would have to give Pope half of the money SAMCRO earns muling cocaine for the cartel. The second demand was much trickier: Pope also told Jax to choose which one of the brothers he had walked into prison with — Tig (Kim Coates), Chibs (Tommy Flanagan), and Opie (Ryan Hurst) — would not be walking out.

While mulling over the decision, Jax... read more

Sons of Anarchy Boss on Damon Pope's Fiery Introduction: Don't Let the Nice Suit Fool You

Harold Perrineau

Never judge a book by its cover.

Sons of Anarchy's Season 5 premiere proved that old adage once again with the introduction of gangster Damon Pope (Lost's Harold Perrineau). Unlike his crew, the One-Niners, Pope is a well-dressed businessman who could seemingly never be mistaken as an outlaw or a thug.

"I always envisioned this guy as being [the] kind of guy who has sort of risen above the street and has learned to carry himself in the community," creator Kurt Sutter tells TVGuide.com... read more

Sons of Anarchy Roars Back For Season 5

Charlie Hunnam

"Heavy is the head that wears the crown," goes the old saying. And as Jax Teller, antihero of FX's Sons of Anarchy and new president of the titular motorcycle club, will discover this season, it's heavier still with two new influences whispering in his ears.

Fresh off its most watched season, the oft-described Hamlet-on-Harleys will likely get another boost from Dexter/NYPD Blue vet Jimmy Smits and Lost/Oz alum Harold Perrineau, who both join for lengthy stints in Season 5 as a dubious ally and a formidable enemy, respectively.

Critic's Guide to Tuesday TV: Sons, Parenthood, One Last Dance, and More

Lauren Graham, Ray Romano

Once upon a time, I'd watch FX's Sons of Anarchy begrudgingly because it was popular. Now I'm watching because it's good. As in bad. As in: bad things happening to bad people. Consequences = drama. And that's rarely been more evident than as the fifth season gets underway Tuesday (10/9c), with the motorcycle club torn apart from within and without, capped by an act of retribution that's horrific even by this show's violent standards.
